K’Andre Miller Apologizes For “Accidental” Spitting Incident

New York Rangers defenseman K’Andre Miller took the NHL by storm for all the wrong reasons. The Ranger was caught on camera spitting on Los Angeles Kings defenseman Drew Doughty and was immediately ejected from the game.

Miller took to Twitter to publicly apologize for the incident and also inform everyone that it was not intentional.

“I have all the respect in the world for Drew Doughty, and what happened was completely accidental,” Miller wrote. “I would never intend to do something like that on purpose; it goes against everything I am as a person and player. I felt awful about it, and I am thankful Drew gave me the opportunity to apologize and explain myself in person after the game.”

Miller has been having an impressive season. In 60 games played, the defenseman racked up 24 assists and 30 total points. Besides Adam Fox, Miller is the leading points-getter for New York.

While Miller was able to apologize after the fact – including speaking to Doughty – the Kings veteran was quite upset over the incident when he was immediately asked about it after the game.

“I don’t even know if I said anything to him after, but I just immediately went to the ref to try to get the penalty,” Doughty said. “But you don’t want to see things like that in this game; I don’t know if I’ve ever seen that. I’m sure it has happened, but not that I’ve seen.

“It’s unfortunate, and whether or not he meant to do it, I have no idea. … I was pretty pissed,” he added.

A suspension has yet to be handed down, but if Miller was to receive one, it would make life difficult for a Rangers side that is hoping to maintain its spot in the playoffs. Luckily, New York has an eight-point advantage over the New York Islanders, who are directly below the Rangers in the standings. The Rangers also have extra cushion with three games in hand over the Isles.
