welcome to the Bruins Benders post game live presented by inside the rink you
0:11
can follow us on Facebook X and YouTube Bruins Benders and you can follow our
0:17
content all season long you're here today with producer Connor and Bender
0:24
Smitty Maddie is on the Lamb with us today going out and enjoying himself
0:30
time on the Centennial Sunday yeah but it is all right we're here it's a
0:35
centennial game the brunes win six to three over the Montreal Canadians two
0:40
goals from Charlie Coyle two goals from Charlie McAvoy everybody has a cherry on top to
0:47
the holiday weekend yeah pretty nice game overall I thought in the first period the Bruins came out uh pretty
0:53
pretty pretty fast to start uh makavo the sweet rap goal early on uh kind of
0:59
set the tone and then you know bang bang right after that Posh KN scores uh and
1:06
then uh coil scores I believe to make it uh three nothing and you have three
1:11
goals in you know a minute 10 and you're Off to the Races uh best first period
1:17
obviously they' played in a while the puck was going in so that was that was a refreshing change uh for the bees and
1:24
and uh you know it's a nice win overall for a team that that needs it they need to beat these kind of teams they need to
1:31
beat you know the Montreal of the world um if they're going to improve and and
1:36
get into and keep playoff position yeah and I think you got the point right there Montreal came in you know playing
1:43
the second half of a back-to-back they played New York uh yesterday afternoon coming into today of course the one
1:50
thing that I couldn't stop but think about for the hour to hour and a half before the game actually started was are
1:57
the Bruins going to come out and lay an AB salute egg after watching this ceremony for the first hour I mean
2:05
that's what usually happens whenever there's any kind of big ceremony or anything that takes a little time uh to
2:11
happen before the before puck drop so hopefully the Bruins knew in advance unlike most of the fans I don't think a
2:18
lot of the fans knew uh that the puck drop wasn't going to be until 4:15 until
2:23
um you know they kind of tuned into the broadcast and was like what's happening right now where where where is the game
2:30
um I I feel like that stuff should have been taken care of uh ahead of time it
2:36
was an amazing ceremony uh you know we should touch on that it was great they
2:41
they uh you know had guys come out from all the different erors and and kind of
2:47
um you know then had some youth hockey players come out to be kind of like the next generation of of hockey fans and
2:53
hockey players in Boston so uh I thought they did a really nice job with the ceremony but I feel like they could have
2:59
have said you know be in your seats at 2 or 1:30 uh you know game starts at 3:
3:06
and and you know yeah not lead on the fans with uh you know kind of a you know
3:14
a late Buck droper yeah a late Buck drop you know not what they were expecting I had a I had a few people reach out to me
3:21
via text and be like delayed start question mark question mark and I said LOL yes it's not going to happen for
3:29
like another hour right but you know one of the things that we were texting about during that ceremony and what I couldn't
3:35
get over is there was one giant glaring missing player in this group and that
3:43
was Zan oara yeah and he hasn't really been present for you know any of the
3:48
ceremonies throughout the year hasn't been close to the team
3:53
much is is this something where he's just drifted away from the team after
3:58
signing that one- day contract to retire is he living over in Europe what's going
4:04
on there yeah I it's a good question I I I would have thought that he would have come back for something like this um but
4:11
you know I mean maybe the way it ended for him here um left a bad taste in his
4:18
mouth and you know he it hasn't been um hasn't been smooth over by Sweeney and
4:24
Neely you know they kind of uh essentially let him walk saying that that he was they wanted him to have a
4:32
reduced role which he didn't want um and and let him walk to to go to another
4:37
team so um I I feel like there's maybe still a little bit of bad blood there
4:43
but yeah I would have I would have liked to have seen Char I think I thought he would have he obviously would have
4:49
gotten a huge Ovation from the crowd and and uh deservedly so um but yeah it was
4:56
it was interesting that that he was that he was missing and I if it is bad blood
5:02
there between the organization or the front you know upper management and him the Bruins front office needs to figure
5:09
that [ __ ] out they need to sorry joh they need to uh they need to get on top of that and because he's you know he's
5:16
too much of a an icon in in Boston and and with this town and you know
5:21
obviously a captain that that raises the cup you know in 2011 so they need to get that [ __ ] figured out and quickly uh if
5:29
there is any you know lingering resentment there between Char and the team yeah and back to the game a little
5:36
bit here and speaking of defenseman Charlie McAvoy has been kind of a glutton for punishment early especially
5:43
from us in the season but he got off the schneide today put two in the back of the net one was a hell of a back around
5:51
or wraparound goal what did you see from mcvoy what did you like from his game today that
5:58
maybe's been different from passed I I thought ton uh he was skating today um
6:04
you know here's his here's his rap goal what a what if you're watching on YouTube what a beauty I can watch that
6:10
over and over again um you know nice play by Oster Lee to gota give it to him as he's in motion and usually he takes
6:17
that Puck and he goes more towards the corner but I think he saw that the goalie was out of position and and took
6:22
it to the net which I'd like to see him do more of uh and and shoot the puck more he has a great shot um he he was
6:30
feeling it today though after he got his second one because he jumped up into the play and and tried to uh there was a
6:36
pass that was kind of behind him and he tried to like the poso drag it through your legs and and take it on the other
6:42
side and he almost pulled it off so um he was feeling it tonight and maybe that gives him some of his confidence back
6:48
and and that's what we need from him we need him to act like an alpha and I thought today he did that
6:55
um yeah go ahead he was definitely feeling it and one of the things that I had texted you and for everybody else
7:01
out there if you haven't seen it go look at nessen tweeted it out um he pulled the old Jake de Brusque move uh when de
7:08
bruss scored against the Toronto Maple Leafs and he grabbed onto the jersey and kissing it as he's sing in the corner
7:15
after Jake debrusk uh Nets his first Hatt trick with the Canucks today so I
7:20
don't know maybe he's feeling it feeling good throwing some shade at one of his old buddies who was just in town who knows yeah yeah I I I liked all of it uh
7:29
you know and and you know that's what we need from him I think a little more emotion a little more uh he laid some
7:35
big hits defensively too I thought he was he was good in his own Zone um really that you know it's these type of
7:42
games where you see and you're like yes that's the number one defenseman that we paid nine and change for now do that
7:49
consistently and if he did he would be in the Norris consideration he would be
7:56
one of the top 5 10 defensemen in the league I think he slid down we all kind of think he slid down a little bit um
8:03
because his play has kind of drifted off the last couple of years maybe now with Sako in there instead of Montgomery um
8:10
maybe that you know frees him up to play a little bit more of an all-around game
8:17
um and and he gets his confidence back and and things start trending in the right direction for him and speaking of
8:24
confidence there is another player who has been packing on the points but has been absolutely struggling to put up the
8:31
goals and that's David posto he gets off the schneide a little bit today puts one
8:36
in the back of the net can he keep it going oh yeah he can
8:41
keep it going hopefully this is one of those things where he's uh he starts to um he goes on a little run here where he
8:48
pots you know sck seven goals in five games or something like that where he
8:54
where he gets going um you know it was it was a nice play by him initially to kind of have the patience to try to find
9:00
zacha at the back door and then you know the puck comes back out to zaka behind the net and posa kind of bumps back to
9:06
give himself some more space um to get the shot off and and just picks the top
9:11
corner like you know only real goal scorers can do and uh you know hopefully
9:17
that gets him going because you know this team is only really going to go as far as as he can take them because they
9:25
don't have enough offense otherwise so if he's struggling offensively the
9:30
team's going to struggle offensively uh so I if if he can get going and and
9:36
really start to you know put some games together where he's scoring goals that'll go a long way towards helping
9:42
this team make the playoffs yeah I definitely agree with that after the Charlie McAvoy the
9:49
Charlie Coyle the David pook you've got Cole Ki with a goal Morgan geeky with an
9:55
assist Mark cleck with two assists Zach beeer Fred Rick you know all with apples
10:02
on the the score sheet here who kind of jumped out at you the most throughout
10:08
the game that may or may not have been one of the goal scorers I thought cathic
10:13
was good all night um he was involved both physically in scrums uh and also
10:20
with a couple of assists I thought Frederick tonight was pretty good he had a I think he had a shot or two um he was
10:27
involved in some of the scum scrums which I'd like to see more of that from him um even makoy was involved in some
10:34
scrums around the front of the net uh so I I thought just just overall as a team
10:41
they had their legs today um which they don't always have especially on games
10:48
where there's uh a ceremony where they're kind of standing around for a bit uh so it was nice to see them have
10:55
that jump and then get get one early and then kind of out on which is they've
11:01
struggled to do they've scored first in uh I think four of the five or five of
11:06
the six Sako game I don't know how many there's been since Sako took over but it was three and two coming into this game
11:12
so this would be the sixth game okay so uh I think they he they've scored first in all the games uh that since he's been
11:22
the coach minus the one where they got shut out so they're getting off to fast starts they just haven't been able to
11:28
add on to um you know put some of those games away um so that's good to see as
11:35
well and and hopefully that that can continue they seem to have um for the
11:40
most part buttoned up defensively uh and now it's just whether or not the offense will come um I
11:47
thought San tonight was fine that's the next thing I was about to bring up is
11:53
you bring it up and then we'll talk about it yeah so quickly some of the detractors uh even though David poock
11:58
did score the goal and get off the schneid he was still a dash one in that department Mason lowai Dash two tonight
12:05
no points that was a rough game for him but Jeremy San something that has been
12:11
kind of a roller coaster for him this season has been his performance he had
12:16
26 saves tonight with three goals against for an 897 save
12:23
percentage not terrible terrible but definitely not great definitely not
12:28
worth 8.25 million you're gonna you're gonna Hammer that all season long All Season yeah
12:35
8.25 um yeah I I thought he was fine he made some big stops uh in some big
12:41
moments no no question and I you know I guess you could say the timely saves are
12:47
what's important um it got a little shaky there in the third when you know goes from 51 to 53 um you know the shot
12:55
leaks through him there uh five hole I think by Coffield um the first one I
13:01
don't know if you can really blame him it was uh you know H to the net and and hits a guy and goes in off of them um so
13:10
uh and then the other one was a one-time that was an absolute missile
13:15
so like I said you probably he probably wants the one back that kind of snuck
13:20
through him by C field to to make it 5-3 or 52 sorry um but overall you know
13:27
decent game but you know you you want him to be better than that for like you
13:32
said for 8.25 million he's need he needs to come up with that save by Coffield um
13:37
to kind of you know because then that gives them a little life you know it's 51 now it's 52 a little bit of life then
13:43
they get the third one and it's 53 and now everybody's starting to sweat where they had the game kind of easily in hand
13:50
so um some timely saves at some points but you know then then also one you you
13:56
probably want him to save and and one he probably say he he wanted to have back yeah of course when you get to that 5-3
14:03
goal everybody's [ __ ] puckers sorry and then it's chaos from there
14:08
everybody's sweating it out you're like oh my God is this gonna happen we were
14:13
doing great but crisis averted 63 win
14:19
everybody can enjoy the rest of their Thanksgiving weekend your life's going to suck tomorrow when you go back to
14:25
work but let's get into some of the fan comments here you by the way do you have a sip of the game before we op in here
14:33
uh I I am drinking coffee that I spilled all of myself uh while I was watching the game so I'm still finishing my
14:40
coffee but I don't have an actual booze drink no sip of the game it's too early it's not five o'clock yeah I mean I
14:46
guess It's Five O'Clock Somewhere now but um yeah no sip of the game for me today so we'll have to go with uh t-boss
14:53
his Centennial sip is a stag Junior Barrel prooof batch 17
15:00
uh last of the junior 128. 7 proof smooth notes of vanilla
15:07
brown sugar uh what does that say pallet pallet is hazelnut leather sweet Oak and
15:14
signature chocolate cherry bomb well that is one hell of a sip uh t-boss uh
15:20
one hell of a sip uh a little bit jealous of you there he is an absolute connoisseur of the booze he absolutely
15:27
is he absolutely is um T actually says uh what a touching walk down memory
15:33
Memory Lane so great once a bruin always a bruin and unless you're me on luch uh
15:40
yeah I mean they tried to bring luch back uh it just didn't work out so well for for him or or or the team yeah he
15:47
really beat that chance up I see what he did there
15:53
uh yeah it was it was it was a it was a beautiful tribute uh nice to see some of
15:58
the uh some of the guys back uh for me particularly good to see wayne Cashman
16:04
back he hasn't been around the team much um you know I watched cash in the in the
16:09
early 80s late 70s early 80s uh you know and he was um you know kind of a Elder
16:16
Statesman on those teams but uh you know always a fan favorite and then uh it was surprising to see Jason Allison that was
16:22
a cool that was a cool little uh get because I I haven't seen him uh around the team all that much and and he had
16:29
some really good years for them uh in the in the early 90s so um good to see
16:35
Jason Allison uh for my perspective um here we go uh he said
16:42
would have liked to have seen corpy in this one uh I agree with you um I think
16:47
he's playing better of the two goalies right now but I just think with this game um and cor pasalo being new to the
16:54
team that there was no way that they were giving this game to anyone other than Swan um
16:59
I I just feel like that was uh you know feda comple before it even was you know
17:06
that was probably decided in the off season you know long before um corpas
17:12
solo and SW were were out here um together and and caalo was playing better uh so I think that was decided a
17:19
long time ago do you think they just picked this single singular game and said Swan's gonna start that game oh
17:25
yeah 100% like long ago like I think that was decided he's the future of the
17:30
franchise he definely needs to start that game right yeah I think so I think that was decided you know basically as
17:37
soon as he signed his contract was signed he was like s starting the Centennial game I just don't think they
17:42
would give that to the backup you know yeah yeah I mean fair enough I guess
17:47
yeah I mean like like you I mean I'm kind of with you though tbos like I feel like of the two goalies he's playing
17:54
better right now um and I had said it before there was a game where they went to San and uh I don't I can't remember
18:02
what the outcome was of the particular game but I thought I think they lost because I thought that cop pasalo should
18:08
have had the net for a second straight game um and that was like two weeks ago
18:13
oh yeah you know what it was it was the second it was cop pasalo got the first game of Sako and he should have got the
18:19
second one um and then they said they were gonna go back to a tandem right um
18:24
so it's he should be getting more time I feel like he should be getting more games uh especially while Swan tries to
18:33
um sort out some of these uh little hiccups that he's having lately yeah and
18:38
Adrien chimes in out with the friends after our Town's Christmas parade and
18:44
check the score three goals how out of character very nice yes it is the Bruins
18:50
to actually take a lead and surprise Adrian in case you didn't watch they
18:55
held on to the lead too yeah that was nice it was nice to see them uh not give up any goals late in periods uh they
19:03
kind of closed out the period strong which was a nice thing to see uh you know a third period goal Allelujah a
19:09
couple third period goals so they doubled their third period goal output at home uh tonight uh that they've had
19:18
all than they've had all year uh the only problem is all three of their third period goals this season have come
19:24
against Montreal so they have not scored a third period goal against any other team in the entire National Hockey
19:31
League not looking good but fortunately for Maddie tbas isn't right here with
19:38
the hoping those turkey day squirts didn't finally kick in for Maddie we can confirm that Maddie was out having a
19:45
ball this afternoon he sent us a picture of his sip of the afternoon but he didn't tell us what it was so he'll have
19:51
to pick that in next time uh tbos also chimes in with amazing how Freddy is
19:58
stepping up with Bruin's royalty in the house it's probably because he went with no bucket in warm-ups but yeah no bucket
20:06
in warm he's always adds a little bit to uh to the legs I feel like you always get a little jump when you go no bucket
20:12
and warm-ups uh had no bucket pasta had the weird bucket it was yeah pasta was
20:17
pasta went old school Cooper bucket so you're like you know he's scoring because he you know he goes old school
20:23
there uh so it maybe too you know having a little fun in warmies you know little
20:29
you know no bucket you go with the old school bucket and you know maybe you're just a little more loose little more
20:36
little more having a little more fun around the around the rink these days not choking the [ __ ] out of your stick
20:42
every five seconds not choking the [ __ ] out of your stick and it it seemed like that the body language and the mood of
20:50
Montgomery did kind of infect the team and I think they were all kind of in
20:56
that like melancholy kind of like everything's kind of going shitty and
21:03
like we're not doing very well and I think everybody kind of felt that uh and there's a new Vibe over there now and
21:10
and Sako seems to have wred the defense for the most part and you know now if
21:16
they can start scoring some goals you know maybe they'll be okay yeah and I mean [ __ ] you must know that madd's not
21:23
here and you're really reading the comments ahead of me because Liam chimes in sort of talking about what you're
21:29
mentioning here Liam's been playing hockey for 25 years and this team the
21:34
Boston Bruins has a character problem they pay they play well for 20 minutes sit back and hope things go well it's
21:41
great they're up four to one but this is not sustainable one of the things that I've noticed back from the clo era and
21:49
I've chimed in to throw in some stats here and there during the clo Julian era
21:54
the Bruins took the body over the puck whenever a player had the puck they took
22:00
the body and the second player in came and took the puck and skated away with it and they absolutely dominated other
22:06
teams in the third period I don't know if it was just
22:11
a you know coaching decision being in shape better shape by the way they
22:17
practice or you know coaching decisions or what it was but there is a glaring
22:22
Difference by how they play now versus how they play then and this team is
22:28
built the same exact way that that 09 through 2013 Bruin team was built it's
22:34
baffling yeah I agree I I don't think they're strong enough on the wall I don't think they're strong enough on pucks and I think that might go to
22:41
coaching because I think they they think they want to play quick they want to play fast so they're trying to instead
22:49
of winning the puck and then gaining possession of it they're just trying to grab it quick on the go and they're not
22:56
stopping on Puck you see uh you've seen a lot more flybys than they ever used to do so I feel like that that's um they're
23:05
being coached to play quick and I think with that they're kind of getting away
23:10
or they had been getting away from some of the details along the boards where you need to win possession the puck
23:16
before you can play quickly with it uh and I think sacko has probably got them back to um being a little bit more on
23:24
Puck staying on pucks and winning battles uh they just seem everyone seems
23:30
to be a little bit better uh winning battles along the wall and you know maybe it's just effort um but I think
23:37
it's effort and coaching I think it's a combination of the two fair enough and Maddie must be watching out there
23:44
somewhere because he just sent us a text his sip of the game was an Irish coffee
23:49
there you go that's what MD was having Maddie is uh out on the town
23:54
enjoying life as a single man uh so good for him uh and absolutely it is well
24:02
deserved so um yeah even even a Bruins Bender podcast host gets a little PTO
24:07
every now and again yeah that's right that's right now Bruce chimes in after some thought maybe we are a little too
24:14
hard on the new guys zadorov and Elias lolm
24:19
can Cal system van system two systems Boston all in same year going to take
24:26
them a while uh to stop think the game so much and just play hockey yeah so I
24:32
think he's saying um system than the Vancouver system and then you know maybe
24:38
a couple different systems in Boston between Montgomery and Sako uh so that
24:43
is a lot of you know a lot of change for those guys within you know a one-year period or you know a couple year period
24:51
uh and it might take them some time to stop thinking the game and just play faster so yeah we thought that early on
24:58
that there would be some adjustments there and some struggles there and there were clearly um uh Elias Lindholm I feel
25:06
like defensively he was pretty much he was there from the beginning defensively
25:12
it's just now finding his offensive game and zadorov I think even even to this
25:17
point is still having some trouble staying within the structure of their defense um but it's he's been better he
25:26
has been better the last you know 5 10 games so maybe it's coming uh hopefully
25:31
it's coming because uh they paid him a lot of money to to uh to defend here and
25:37
he hasn't been great so he needs to improve and and that will also go a long
25:43
way towards this team um you know being a playoff team or being a more difficult
25:49
out if they do make it into the playoffs then let me ask you this if you bring in these two players and they're pretty you
25:56
know high dollar players and things just aren't working out do you tweak the team
26:01
system at all to help match their play style a little versus just saying well
26:08
you're not fitting the system and you're not getting it too [ __ ] bad um I would say no just because to
26:16
adjust a system that we'll say 15 to 18 other guys are already familiar with to
26:24
help out two guys just isn't I don't think that's productive um just because
26:31
I you might throw off the 15 or 18 other guys if you're adjusting for the two
26:36
guys that are new uh so I I I I think it's on those two guys to adjust to the
26:42
Boston system uh and look I think Lind Holm has done a pretty good job of it he just needs to find his offense um he's
26:49
been doing pretty well in the faceoffs he's been you know pretty strong defensively Zadora just floats a little
26:56
bit too much for my liking he gets outside out of the structure and uh he'll Chase guys all the way up to the
27:01
point in the defensive Zone which is out of structure um he's not a great passer out of his own Zone um his passes are
27:09
kind of soft D to D and and I don't think he was ever that player like I don't think zorov was ever marketed as
27:16
you know like a high skill you know smart I hockey IQ player right he's the
27:21
big body the the physical presence he'll fight he's going to put somebody through
27:27
the boards every now and again again you know that type of player the the thing that I can't stand about the Elias lolm
27:33
talk is this guy was known to be a defensive selky style player not
27:41
necessarily be lighting up the scoreboards and his average is somewhere between 40 and 60 points a year right
27:48
and even when people were really grilling him about a week or two ago he was on points or Point pace for about 40
27:55
typical but everybody's ah he's only going to score 4 that sucks yes but that is exactly what they
28:03
signed yeah that's that's my problem with it I like the player overall I just think they paid him way too much money
28:10
you know they and I think that's slowly becoming evident to everybody it's not the players are bad it's they overpaid
28:18
right yeah I mean I I would take zador off too at you know two and a half million you know if you want to cut that
28:24
number in half and same with Lindholm if you want to pay him 4 million instead of you know almost eight I'm fine with that
28:30
I have no problem with giving him you know four even five give him Charlie coil money I'm fine with that but to
28:38
give him seven you know and change you're you're looking for him to be a number one guy which he just isn't uh
28:46
unless he's playing with elite players and you know or two elite players uh in
28:52
goodro and tchuk so like that's just the Bruins don't have that I feel like I
28:58
bitched and moaned for the last three seasons about Charlie Coyle being overpaid at 5.25 million yeah they're
29:05
about to get rid of him and the third line Center is about to be Elias lolm who is slightly overpaid and I'm gonna
29:11
complain about that for the next three years oh yeah and and you should and you
29:17
should complain about that for the next three years because it's a it is a vast overpay uh and I don't know if the
29:24
Bruins were bidding uh against anyone else I I feel like and I have no you
29:30
know source to back this up or anything I feel like they were bidding against themselves for both players I think both
29:36
guys they didn't have um markets um
29:41
outside of the Bruins and the Bruins just paid him what they wanted to pay him
29:48
um and I'm not sure why I'm not sure why I I feel like they're they could have
29:53
gotten both players for less than what they gave them there was was some talk
29:59
that Vancouver had offered Elias ly Holm the same contract that they were offering to Jake
30:05
debrusk and all the players in Vancouver said hey man look we love you here you
30:11
fit our system well we want you to stay you were great in the playoffs and they flip-flopped de bruss
30:18
took the money there and he said screw you guys I'm gonna take the bag in Boston see you later and I feel like Don
30:26
Sweeney looked at this player who was a great value Patrice berson and they had interest in him
30:34
before back when uh Carolina traded him and hannahan to
30:41
Calgary and Don Sweeney got hot in the britches again and here you go he
30:47
finally gets his guy yeah a few years too late uh in for too much money so uh
30:53
fantastic nice job absolutely fantastic speaking of too much let's
30:58
talk about 8.25 million one quick time Swan gets the win yes another Sub 900
31:06
save percentage yes when it comes to the goal tending do you think that
31:11
eventually this year there will be a bit of a goal tending controversy if Corp
31:16
pasalo keeps up his solid play Yeah there will be because I've
31:22
already uh I don't know if I've started it but I'm on my way there you're stok
31:28
in the Flames yeah I'm on my way there like you're whittling the sticks together I mean I'm trying to build a
31:34
fire here kids I mean Corpus salo's played better uh he should be getting more games than he's getting right now
31:41
uh I know you want to have Swan kind of work through it and this maybe is his training camp but again that's his own
31:48
[ __ ] fault sorry John but it is it's his own fault uh and I think some guys
31:53
on the team held it against him that he took it into uh the season so you know uh yeah you got to work your
32:02
way back into shape or you know game shape whatever you want to call it but
32:08
not at the expense of wins and losses for the team now like do it in practice you and Bully Bob get together and and
32:15
have a powwow and and do all the do all the drills and all that crap but give
32:21
the guy that's playing better than the net right now looking back on it do you think that the players were giving him
32:28
the shade in the reports of he was losing some of his teammates and also
32:34
Jim Montgomery just absolutely riding him early in the season was all related
32:40
to Jim Montgomery and the players kind of saying [ __ ] you for the contract
32:47
negotiations I don't know if that's the sole reason um because they've also played
32:53
like complete trash in front of swan they have they've played worse in front of him than cor pasalo that's that's not
32:59
debatable um I I I feel like I don't know if that's 100% of the reason but I
33:05
think there's a you know a inkling of that I think that's a little bit there I think it maybe it's in the back of their
33:12
minds like hey this guy kind of screwed us at the beginning of the season so you know well go ahead Jeremy you you wanted
33:19
the big money you wanted the big contract like go out there and prove it now so they sent him out there and I
33:24
think part of it too was you know Sweeny and and Neely and you know because I
33:30
think those guys do have a say in and who gets the net to a certain degree who plays and so forth we're saying look we
33:37
just signed a guy to a big contract put him in the game uh so I think you know there's a
33:43
there's a a Confluence of things there I think there's a bunch of things that probably all work together to um to have
33:51
Swingman start the season and them to kind of ride him and then the players
33:56
not to play great in front of them um so yeah you kind of he kind of reaps what
34:02
he SWS here and we said it you know when you hold out and you miss training camp you usually start slow or you get
34:09
injured and if you don't start the way that you should start you know the fans
34:15
and people start to turn on you and start to get on you uh and that's what's happened uh so until he starts to play
34:22
better he's going to be hearing about this [ __ ] for the rest of the year it's going to be there all year long uh even
34:27
even even if he has back-to-back shutouts if in the next game he has an 840 and gives up five he's going to hear
34:34
it it's just part of the part of doing business especially when you sign a big contract that's that comes with it that
34:41
comes with the territory you want to be you know the number one guy the big guy you have to answer you have to answer
34:46
when you don't play well you have to answer when you know things don't go your way uh and and he'll he'll hear
34:54
about it all year long if if um you know he he has bad games it's just the way
34:59
that way that it is and tboss chimes in here about the jerseys today the special
35:05
Centennial jerseys the Bruins were wearing I saw some folks commenting on Twitter and some people even saying
35:12
these should be the permanent new jerseys for the Boston Bruins what do you think I'm I'm in I love these things
35:19
uh I mean I don't I don't love the yellow down the sleeve here part I don't
35:25
love that I think that should probably be black and I don't love the gold stripe on the on the pants either um but
35:33
other than that uh love them uh I I really thought that they never should have got away from from these uh kind
35:41
this kind of 80s look uh in the first place um so yeah I'd be all in if
35:47
they're uh if they were the the kind of new home jerseys all the time all right
35:53
Adrien chimes in another sip of the day her hubby tonight had a fall spiced
36:00
oldfashioned this maple syrup plus infused bourbon brings warming fall
36:06
spices to this splin spin on the classic cocktail now we've got all these uh
36:12
awesome descriptions and everything I had uh we're killing it I had a couple of maple old-fashioneds uh last night uh
36:20
Maddie and I went out on the town uh and I had a couple of mapled old Fashions
36:25
Maddie had some espresso martinis uh we did a bourbon tasting too that if it if
36:30
it hasn't been uh uploaded you'll be seeing that uh pretty soon on on YouTube
36:36
uh so yeah um I I I'm a big fan of the of the Bourbons the maple bourbons and
36:42
uh old fashions in general absolutely Matthew chimes in
36:48
here welcome Matthew Curtis three more winnable games this week what does this
36:54
team do over the next three games and do they get absolutely ball Washed by
37:01
Winnipeg on the 10th there is a very good chance they get ball Washed by Winnipeg on the 10th
37:07
um they should um you know Detroit always plays
37:13
them fairly tough um but you know it is winnable games like uh Detroit at home
37:19
at Chicago uh on Wednesday fers on Saturday and the
37:24
Flyers on Saturday the Flyers will play them tough the Flyers um work hard and if the Bruins aren't
37:30
going to work hard in that game the Flyers could beat them uh 100% uh the flyers I think have a yeah I mean the
37:36
Flyers have a better record than you right now so that's not exactly a given um but it's a winnable game they
37:43
definitely have the better coach of the bunch in the Bruins Bender opinion yes
37:50
uh we we do like uh we do like us some torts around here uh no question about it um but that Winnipeg game especially
37:58
if they start to string some wins together here you know if they go two- one or 2 and one something like that in
38:04
in the next three uh and then go go out to Winnipeg um that'll be a that'll be a
38:11
decent measuring stick to see where they're at because you know Winnipeg uh has been kind of the standard you know
38:18
up to this point in the season so uh it it it it will be interesting to see how
38:24
they do you know has their defensive game improve proved enough to keep uh you know a really potent Winnipeg team
38:31
off the scoreboard and then can they score goals against the Winnipeg team uh that plays fantastic defense and has you
38:38
know an all World goalie in Conor heluk so um that will be a huge test for them and it will be interesting to see you
38:44
know how they stack up in that game definitely the the toughest of the bunch and what's up Gus he says let's go
38:51
Bruins this game will be the Turning Point Gus let's let's pipe it down a
38:56
little bit might be getting ahead of ourselves they just lost the shitty Pittsburgh Penguins like two days ago
39:02
yeah rels ourselves but this was the Habs on a back to back yes so uh couple things
39:10
Habs on a backto back um Bruins put up six against the Habs in in the first
39:15
game of the year so they've scored 12 goals against Montreal so far this season um they haven't been able to
39:21
score like this against other teams so can they can they do this against other
39:26
teams that aren't at the bottom of the league uh that's the issue that's what needs to be figured out can they do this
39:35
against good teams or even other bad teams um you know they haven't scored a third period goal goal at home against
39:42
anybody not named Montreal Canadians so uh until they can prove that they can do
39:47
that we need to pump the brakes a little bit but you know obviously a step in the right direction um they're pretty
39:54
they've been pretty good under Sako so we just they just need to continue to build um
40:00
keep you know focusing on the yeah focusing on the details on defense and
40:06
and then being able to score offensively um you know so hopefully it is a it is a
40:11
building block and and a turning point I would love nothing more than for it to be a a turning point and for this team
40:18
to you know reel off you know four or five in a row yeah and I think the Nikki kanuck here probably gives the best one
40:25
to two sentence summary of the game two Charlie stepped it up great ceremony but remember it's against Montreal keep it
40:32
rolling baby uh yes 100% t-boss chimes in here when we were talking about zidan
40:38
oara and not being in uh any of the ceremonies that they treated him like [ __ ] last year another Sweeney neie Gaff
40:46
I'm not really sure what they did last year to piss him off are you tracking
40:51
what he's throwing down here yeah I I just feel like I think maybe it had to do with how he left uh um you know when
40:58
he um you know they kind of L balled him on on his contract offer and and told
41:03
him you know he was going to be it was going to be a reduced role and I I just don't think he he liked the way that all
41:09
went down um he thought he probably deserved more respect than the way they handled that at the end and he went to
41:16
another team and and you know played pretty well for them so uh I think
41:22
that's probably what it all boils down to and I can't help but laugh Beth chimes in here and says the pp is still
41:29
a big issue I couldn't think but to myself at least it's not a small issue
41:35
Beth it's not a small issue oh we're childish over here but we
41:42
love it uh yeah I mean the the the power play is an issue uh 100% and and uh it
41:50
was interesting because they they tried some new power play units in practice uh
41:57
yeah yesterday uh and then decided not to go with them during the game today so
42:02
that was that was interesting they had that's a play out of the Jim Montgomery book right there yeah it's like trying
42:07
to throw a misdirection thing or something like that I don't know uh but whatever it was it didn't really work um
42:14
and you know they they have too many players too many good players to not figure it out um I think you need to
42:25
start with having someone else run the power play i i i and we talked about this before it shouldn't be Chris Kelly
42:31
he's not a power play guy never really has been so I don't understand why you
42:37
have a guy that's you know uh more of a penalty killing guy running the power play uh I you pay Patrice berson to be
42:45
an off I consultant and send a text to the power play group chat once a week I
42:52
yeah I mean I I'll take up a collection well we can we can put together a go
42:57
fundme to get Patrice you know 50 bucks a week to to send a couple of texts to the to the power play meetings or send
43:03
some you know some video to the power play meetings um I think they I think they have done some nice things since
43:11
scko took over they're looking more at the low play uh trying to do that some more I think their entries haven't been
43:17
great but they've been better but they're still making some boneheaded um you know passing plays once they get it
43:24
into the zone so you know you know until they kind of figure that out and like
43:30
stop trying to pass it through people they're they're going they're going to struggle so I don't know if that's
43:36
necessarily all on the coaching I think some of it's on the coaching but um I I
43:41
feel like you know some of it's on the players and and deferring they had Ray
43:46
bour on the broadcast um tonight uh in the at the beginning of the second period and he
43:52
said he'd like to see Charlie McAvoy shoot the puck more um and you know I
43:57
think that would yeah I mean and you know he shows tonight when he shoots the puck he can be dangerous so uh you know
44:05
Ray bour led the league in shots almost every year uh when it got back to him he was putting it on net um and I think if
44:13
makoy has that mentality then I think that starts to open up the wings and then the onetime
44:19
for Pak will be open more the you know the bumper will be open more because they'll have to suck out towards makoy
44:25
to take the shot away and then if you pass to the wing then there's a better angle to pass to the bumper or to pass
44:31
down low and then pass to the bumper so I think it all starts with him having a shot mentality after they enter the zone
44:39
and that's been an issue as well so um you know they they have some some things to figure out there but I like I said
44:47
there's too many good players for them not to be better than they are yes and David chiming in with the
44:55
bless his heart Terry Ry looked like a fat guy that lost a Terry O'Reilly look
45:00
Alik contest okay um every every professional sports guy unless you're a
45:07
football player um that's already big and fat um every every guy like puts on
45:15
a ton of weight after they get out of the game because their conditioning was at such a high level that once they stop
45:22
doing that and and sit down for five minutes they just balloon up you know and those guys probably enjoy an adult
45:29
beverage like the rest of us do so um you know I think I'll I'll chalk it up to that I'll chalk it up to you know
45:37
he's a he's a guy who's uh enjoying some adult beverages in his old age and and
45:42
he's put in his time and he's paid his dues yeah he's paid his dues he he
45:47
deserves to all those beers he probably deserves us to buy him a beer too uh so
45:53
I I'll I'll cut him a little bit of slack and and uh cuz certainly wouldn't want to be the one after uh Christ
46:00
Island told us the story of Terry O'Reilly beating the bag out of him because he didn't know he was
46:05
left-handed um I certainly wouldn't want to be the one to tell Terry O'Reilly he was fat so uh I'm gonna I'm gonna stick
46:13
with uh will buy him some beers and uh and and we'll leave we'll leave it at
46:19
that now Jeremy chimes in the passes looked better or looked better if he in
46:27
the third yeah passing has been kind of an issue oh yeah overall passing into
46:33
space throwing it off the boards to absolutely nobody which doesn't classify as a giveaway but it [ __ ] does in my
46:40
book in my oh sure it does yeah the passing's been an issue uh we've talked about it before I mean they they have
46:47
they very rarely go tape to tape to tape to tape you know it's just not they just don't have enough guys who can do it uh
46:53
they don't have enough guys who can pass well passing is an art form so is receiving a pass which I think they have
46:59
a bunch of guys on the team that have trouble with that so um it it has looked
47:05
better um but I am still uh concerned about it
47:12
especially once when they face those teams that pressure uh you know uh hard
47:19
pressure on the D because I I don't know how well they can
47:25
pass when they're not pressured and then all of a sudden if they're you know if they have a lot of pressure on them you
47:31
know what do those passes look like and it's it's the defenses turnover machines is what we've seen so um they do have
47:40
some stuff to clean up there 100% um I just don't I'm not sure how much it's
47:45
going to improve because I just I'm not sure they have the Personnel that's great and in those areas to be able to
47:52
improve it that much yeah and that really goes into another another comment that tboss threw in here it really sucks
47:59
that because of Sweeney [ __ ] foresight sorry John that we get the salary cap boost in the next couple of years we
48:06
won't because it'll be an even wash with the zador off and the linol contracts yes and a no
48:15
um I have a way of looking at what Sweeney is doing if you look at it from
48:20
a perspective of your golender and your defenseman are completely locked up and sign you just have low ride deal with
48:27
moving forward he has the next two seasons to 100% address the forward
48:33
group and we'll have another 20 million this season to go after it if not more
48:39
there's a lot of discussion about what the cap could or couldn't be um we won't
48:44
get into that today probably but um you know you could even get up to 30 million
48:51
within the next two years to 40 million that's that's a lot of money that you can spend on forwards to go and
48:57
fix the forward group it it really is going to boil down to do you bring Brad Maran back they will bring Brad Marian
49:05
back uh unless they fall out of it and and they have a conversation about him
49:11
uh being traded he will come back he will be back uh but you know I still
49:17
feel like they'll have some money to um to address the forwards now can
49:22
they go out and get Elite Talent is the question it it doesn't seem like they've
49:27
been able to lure the really Elite talented players to come here um and now
49:34
with them kind of you know we'll call it in the middle um you know is an Elite
49:40
Talent going to want to come and play in Boston uh or are they going to look to play for a team that's more of a
49:47
contender uh that has some cap space so you know you may have to overpay to get guys to come here um but true there's no
49:56
there's no denying that the Bruins are short of Elite Talent and they need to
50:02
bring some of that in would I give you know Miko ranton $14 million a year which is apparently what his asking
50:08
price is sure I would um the Cap's going up you need elite players you need Elite
50:14
goal scoring I would 100% give them that money um because you need talent uh and
50:21
he would all of a sudden maybe create uh
50:26
a better top six and knock some guys down the lineup back to more of where
50:31
their spots should really be like you wouldn't see Morgan geeki on the first line if you had moiko ranton so not a
50:38
chicken Dick's chance so there's not one yeah I mean so there you know it's a
50:43
trickle down effect you sign a guy like that you bump guys further down where they've been more successful uh so you
50:51
know there is some opportunities there for them to sign some some Talent now it's just whether whether or not they
50:57
can close the deal in the past they haven't really been able to it's you know you always hear oh they're in on
51:02
John tarus oh they're in on Jerome ainla or they're in on this guy or that guy you know Taris went to Toronto ainla
51:10
even though they thought they had a deal went to Pittsburgh uh before he ended up coming to you so you know they haven't
51:16
been able to close those deals to bring in those Elite guys they get the second
51:21
tier guys or the third tier guys or the fourth tier guys or the you know Street free agents or the Prof you know
51:29
professional triy outs they're not they're not signing the Elite Talent that's out on the market uh so we'll
51:35
have to wait and see if they can pull that off I think that's the conundrum
51:40
that you bring up right there is they they're not signing the Elite Talent and they're not able to draft the Elite
51:47
Talent right and they have no Elite Talent to trade get Elite Talent yeah
51:54
so well yeah I mean the only way this team could trade to bring in Elite Talent would be to trade Elite Talent
52:01
like you'd have to trade panak who's your Elite Talent to bring in Elite Talent OR you'd have to trade Brad
52:07
Martian who maybe isn't Elite Talent anymore but he's excellent Talent we'll call it uh or Charlie makoy is excellent
52:14
Talent if you trade him yeah you could bring in an elite or excellent talent but you got to trade your really good
52:20
players to get really good players back you're not going to trade Trent Frederick and get back Conor McDavid it's just not happening
52:27
so um you know they're kind of stuck there uh so it's going to have to happen through free agency or they're going to
52:33
have to go uh be suck be shitty for a while sorry John and and draft at the
52:40
top of the draft and and get players that way or they're gonna have to get lucky and hit on a random draft pick you
52:46
know Matt ptra is gonna have to turn into a second line Center that's really good or you know some of these guys they
52:52
have in college now are going to have to have breakout seasons and then you know play Above their heads like Brad Martian
52:58
did you know you drafted him in the second round or third round and and he was uh he was you know originally
53:05
supposed to be a fourth line checking guy you know a pest um but he you know
53:11
he improved and improved and then was one of the best left Wings in the league you're gonna have to hit on a guy like that uh where you get kind of Lucky um
53:19
so they're not in a good spot as far as kind of retooling the roster they just
53:25
aren't um when you go and draft guys like Zack senesin who's [ __ ] burnt toast yeah I
53:34
mean it's it's they're they're gonna have to get lucky they're gonna have to um you know do some get get lucky
53:42
they're gonna have to get lucky is is is what it comes down to as far as the the drafting part or they're gonna have to
53:48
be able to lure in one of these big name free agents um so we'll see if they can do that I hope they can that is what we
53:57
will be waiting on until then you will be waiting on us for next time maybe
54:04
Maddie will be back maybe he won't but for today that is it from me and Smitty
54:11
and again as always go Bruins thanks a lot byebye
