The Rapid City Rush have announced that they have re-signed forward Brett Davis for the 2024-25 ECHL season.

Junior and Collegiate Career

Brett Davis started his junior career in the 2014-15 season with the Lethbridge Hurricanes in the WHL. He spent six seasons in the WHL, splitting his time between the Lethbridge Hurricanes, Kootenay Ice, and Red Deer Rebels. Davis played in 309 WHL games, where he had 93 goals and 107 assists for 200 points. He had 118 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of -101. Davis played in the postseason for two of his seasons in the WHL, one with the Lethbridge Hurricanes and one with the Red Deer Rebels. He played in nine games where he had zero goals and two assists for two points. He had six penalty minutes and a plus/minus of -9. Davis was an assistant captain for the Kootenay Ice in the 2018-19 season and for the Red Deer Rebels in the 2019-20 season.

After completing his junior career, Davis spent the 2020-21 season in the AHL with the Manitoba Moose before going to the University of Manitoba in the 2021-22 season. He spent two seasons at Manitoba playing in 36 games, where he had 20 goals and 26 assists for 46 points with 51 penalty minutes. In the 2022-23 season, Davis was named to the USports West Second All-Star Team.

Professional Career

In the 2020-21 season, Brett Davis played in five games with the Manitoba Moose. He did not register any points and had two penalty minutes and a plus/minus of -1. Davis then played two seasons in USports before signing with the Florida Everblades in the ECHL. He has played in the ECHL with the Everblades as well as the Rapid City Rush. Davis has played in a total of 50 ECHL games, where he has six goals and 19 assists for 25 points. He has 32 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of -4. With Rapid City in the 2023-24 season, Davis played in 17 games where he had three goals and nine assists for 12 points. He had ten penalty minutes and a plus/minus of -5.

Impact on the 2024-25 Rapid City Rush (Opinion)

Brett Davis did not spend a lot of time with the Rush in the 2023-24 season, but from the time he did play, he seems to be a pretty promising player. When playing with players who complement his skills, Davis can be a massive point producer, whether it is scoring goals or setting up teammates to score. Davis also has quite a bit of speed that can help with breakaways or odd-man rushes up the ice. Standing at 6’2″, Davis also helps add some size to Rapid City, which is something that the team lacked in the 2023-24 season. The 2024-25 season will be Davis’ second season with Rapid City and in the ECHL, and it will be his third professional season.
