Adam Gajan is a 2023 NHL Draft goaltender prospect from Propad, Slovakia, who stands at 6’3 and weighs 176 lbs. The 19-year-old goaltender appeared in 40 games last year, as 34 of his 40 appearances came in the NAHL with the Chippewa Steel; in those 34 games, he went 19-12-1 with a 2.57 GAA, .917 SV%, and one shutout, In six games with the Green Bay Gamblers of the USHL Gajan, went 5-1 with a 2.48 GAA, .906% along with a shutout. Gajan also represented his country at the U20 World Junior Championships, where he went 2-2 with a 2.40 GAA, .936 SV%, and one shutout; he was named goaltender of the tournament for his performance. Gajan was also eligible for last year’s draft but never heard his name get called in a year that saw 20 goaltenders get their names called. The Slovakian netminder is committed to the University of Minnesota-Duluth for the 2023-24 season.
Scouting Report
There’s a lot to like about Gajan, as he has a lot of size and is very athletic in his net. Prior to this season, he didn’t have any experience in North America, and with him now having a year of North American Hockey under his belt, and having been eligible for last year’s draft, a lot more teams have probably had an easier time scouting him. One factor that really plays in Gajon’s favor is that he’s really good at handling the puck, and having that in his skill set makes him that much more desirable. Unlike last year, I do think Gajan’s name will get called, and I would expect it to be in the third or fourth round.
