Anton Frondell

Diving Deeper

Frondell finished the 2024-25 season with the Djurgårdens IF with 11 goals and 14 assists over 29 games played during the regular season. During qualifications, he scored seven points (3G, 4A) over 16 games. When he was with Team Sweden at the U-18 WJC, he played in five games with one goal and two assists.

Hockey IQ

Frondell is a highly talented centre with a solid 200-foot game and reads plays two steps ahead of where they are on the ice. He can be a difficult player to go against and is tough to contain. He bullies his way into the offensive zone when he’s on the rush at his top speed. Frondell does a good job at shielding the puck and is consistently willing to battle for the puck in tough areas. He is a very driven and aware player with incredible hockey IQ. Frondell is capable of holding his composure on the ice and has been compared to Leo Carlsson in his draft year.

“Frondell has excellent hockey sense. He reads how plays are developing and slides into ‘quiet ice’ to make himself available offensively. He has good size and room to add more strength and weight as he matures. Frondell is also generally responsible defensively.”

Room For Improvement

Frondell is a strong player, but his knee injury earlier this season has raised concerns about future injury and his ability to stay healthy and consistent. While Frondell is a quick skater, his first few steps getting into that groove could be improved on as well.

Final Thoughts

When Frondell is healthy, he shows true potential to be a top six centre at the NHL level. Following his knee injury, he struggled a bit to come back and find his footing, which can be alarming given the pace that the big leagues move at. If Frondell is able to maintain consistency despite bumps in the road, he is a promising addition to a teams pipeline.
