National Hockey League 2025 draft prospect Cameron Schmidt was born in Edmonton, Alberta, on January 19, 2007. The 18-year-old Schmidt is a right wing projected by some to be chosen in the late first to early second round of the 2025 NHL Entry Draft. Schmidt is a 5-foot-7, 160-pound right-shot forward who is speedy, with an NHL-caliber shot.
Cameron Schmidt is ranked by some hockey evaluators in the top 40 in scouting reports, with Inside The Rink slotting him seventh overall in their draft rankings. The following list will show the scouting rankings for Cameron Schmidt:

Ranked #43 by NHL Central Scouting (NA)

Diving Deeper:
Schmidt got off to a blazing start to his 2024-25 season with the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League with 26 goals before the first of the year. From then on, Schmidt’s production stalled to just two goals in February and a final total of 40 goals and 38 assists for the season. In five playoff games, Schmidt scored four goals with five assists.
Offensive Game:
NHL comparables for Schmidt usually land on Montreal’s Cole Caufield. Schmidt is undersized but has great speed, an accurate shot, and offensive ability that has excellent potential. The diminutive forward was one of Team Canada’s top offensive players in the U17 and U18 World Championships. Schmidt also uses relentless forechecking to create chances in his offensive zone.
Shooting Ability:
Cameron Schmidt can shoot the puck, as evidenced by his increasing goal totals over the last few years. Schmidt can run a little streaky in his production, but he does possess a lethal wrist shot.
Final Thoughts:
Cameron Schmidt is talented but undersized. His defensive ability is a concern as well as being able to withstand the NHL physicality. Due to these caveats, Schmidt will probably not go in the top 20 in this draft, but should be close behind.
