Heading into the 2025 NHL Draft, right-handed defender Quinn Beauchesne’s stock is on the rise.
Beauchesne is coming off his second full season in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Guelph Storm. He finished the 2024-2025 season with 6G, 18A, 24TP in 49GP. The Storm finished last in the Midwest Division with a 21-28-9 record.
A product of Hockey Eastern Ontario, Beauchesne played his minor career with the Upper Canada Cyclones and the Nepean Raiders, where he had 35P (8G 27A) in 28 games played at the U18 level during the 2022-2023 season, including being a central part of a deep playoff run for the Raiders in that year.
The defender is also a two-time world champion with Team Canada, winning the Hlinka-Gretzky Cup in 2024 and coming off a U18 World Junior Championship gold medal at the beginning of May.
When it comes to playstyle, Beauchesne is an offensive-minded defenseman who is not scared to join the rush. He started playing hockey as a forward but was converted to the blue line during his time in minor hockey, giving him a strong foundation for his goal-scoring mindset.
While he is no stranger to the offensive end, Beauschesne is still a responsible defenseman, often playing on the top line. Whether it’s something that has carried over from his time as a forward, or something he has developed as a defender, or likely both, Beauchesne’s ability to always be involved in the play is what really sets him apart.
His vision on the ice helps him get involved in the offensive zone and highlights his ability to effectively get it out of his own end. He is commonly noted as “being hard to miss” on the ice because of the fact that he seems to be everywhere in every play, and this can certainly be attributed to his ability to get great offensive and defensive reads, no matter what level he is playing at.
Beauchesne’s ability to find success wherever he goes is also something that sets him apart. Not only was he consistently a playoff performer in his minor hockey career, but he also wore a letter with Team Ontario and helped lead them to a Gold Medal at the 2023 Canada Winter Games.
It seems that any time there is an exceptional nod to be given, or a selection to be made when it comes to Ontario Hockey, Quinn Beauchesne’s name is in the mix. In addition to being repeatedly selected to represent Canada and Ontario at different levels, he also took part in the 2025 Prospects Game as a part of Team CHL ahead of this year’s draft.
Beauchesne is projected to go somewhere in the back half of the top 100 draft picks, being projected as high as 60th overall.
Despite being on a bottom-of-the-league team, Beauchesne has repeatedly managed to show his value heading into this 2025 NHL Draft.
