The St. Louis Blues received some bad news yesterday, that defenseman Torey Krug will reportedly miss significant time. The former Bruins and now Blues defenseman is set to miss almost the next two months and possibly more depending how serious the injury is.
The St. Louis Blues made the announcement earlier today:
St. Louis Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today the team has placed defenseman Torey Krug on injured reserve with a lower-body injury.
Krug will be re-evaluated in six weeks.
During his absence, Krug will be designated for the long-term injury (LTI) exception to the salary cap.
To replace the injured Krug the Blues will recall Tyler Tucker from their AHL affiliate to fill the void of the lost veteran. The 22-year-old Tucker will now have the chance to prove himself as he only has four career NHL games under his belt which all came earlier this season. So far this season with the AHL Springfield Thunderbirds he’s collected one goal and 12 assists over 24 games.
On the season the 31-year-old Krug has registered five goals and 12 assists in 31 games for St. Louis. Majority of his goals have come on the power play where he’s collected four PP goals and 8 PP points. Thanks to the Blues slow start to the season, Krug holds a minus-20 rating.
The Blues sit fifth in the Central Division as they trail the Stars, Jets, Avalanche, and Wild. At this point, it seems if the Blues want to be a playoff team, they will have to qualify as a wild card which they are currently five points behind the Calgary Flames for the final spot.
