Adam Larsson Secures Four-Year Extension

Hector Urcia/InsideTheRink

Adam Larsson signed a four-year, $5.25 million average annual value extension with the Seattle Kraken on Tuesday morning, locking him in until the 2028-29 season. He is entering the final year of his current $4 million contract after being selected from the Edmonton Oilers in the 2021 expansion draft.

Larsson totaled 18 points over 81 games with the Kraken during the 2023-24 season. He averaged 22:57 of ice time and led the team in total TOI (1858:33). Larsson was second in blocked shots (151) and hits (162) among all of Seattle’s defensemen.

Larsson held an Iron Man streak of 343 consecutive games and has played in 245 of 246 games in Kraken History, missing one only for the birth of his daughter in April. He has played in 848 career games and totaled 213 points (45 goals, 168 assists) with the New Jersey Devils, Edmonton Oilers, and Seattle Kraken. He has also appeared in 38 Stanley Cup Playoff games and totaled 13 points across those games.

During the 2023-24 season, Larsson’s defensive metrics weren’t as strong as they were the previous season. He had a minus-3.9 defensive goal above replacement, the worst mark among all of Seattle’s blue-liners. Despite not having a great season, Larsson is expected to keep his spot in the top defensive pair with Vince Dunn, but there would be no surprise if Brandon Montour eats into his overall minutes.

Larsson also represented Sweden in the 2016, 2018, 2019, and 2022 IIHF Men’s World Championships and won a gold medal in 2022.

Jayd Serdy

I grew up in Seattle mostly following baseball as a kid and more recently got into hockey. Since then it’s been my favorite thing, I love the community surrounding it, the people it’s brought into my life, the opportunities and of course the game itself. When I’m not watching hockey I spend a lot of time outside with my dog and following all kinds of other sports!
