AHL: Bridgeport Islander Sign 27-Year-Old Defenseman

The Bridgeport Islanders continue to build their roster for the 2025-26 season. Today, that included the signing of a 27-year-old defenseman in Sean Day. Day spent last season with HV71 of the Swedish Hockey League. In 45 games, he had 11 points on two goals and nine assists. He was a -18 with six penalty minutes. In relegation games, he had an assist and was a plus-four.

Day originally started in the Ontario Hockey League, where he spent five seasons playing with three different teams in the Mississauga Steelheads, Windsor Spitfires, and Kingston Frontenacs. He played in 291 games, recording 158 points on 42 goals and 116 assists. He was a -70 with 159 penalty minutes. Day then played for the Hartford Wolf Pack of the AHL and the Maine Mariners of the ECHL. He split time between the two teams over two seasons. In 62 games with Hartford, he had 18 points on four goals and 14 assists. He was a -24 with 18 penalty minutes. In 55 games with the Mariners, he had 35 points on nine goals and 26 assists; he was a +16 with 33 penalty minutes.

In 2020-21, he joined the Syracuse Crunch, where he spent four seasons, appearing in 215 games, recording 92 points on 16 goals and 76 assists. He was a plus-eight with 126 penalty minutes. Day also appeared in two NHL games with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2021-22. He didn’t record a point and was a minus-two.
