
The Charlotte Checkers this morning announced they are re-signing forward Riley Hughes to a one-year AHL contract. Hughes, this season in 31 games, recorded eight points on three goals and five assists. He was a minus-two with a power-play goal and 12 penalty minutes. He also played in 20 games for the Savannah Ghost Pirates. Hughes recorded 23 points on 14 goals and nine assists. He was a plus-seven with a power-play goal and 27 penalty minutes.

The New York Rangers drafted Hughes 216th overall in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. Hughes spent his first four seasons in college with the Northeastern Huskies, where in 118 games he recorded 32 points on 11 goals and 21 assists. He was a -11 with three power-play goals, a shorthanded goal, and a game-winning goal. In 2023-24, he transferred to the Ohio State Buckeyes, where in 23 games he had five points on a goal and four assists. He was a minus-three and had 19 penalty minutes. After college, he played for the Iowa Heartlanders of the ECHL. In 12 games, he had four points on three goals and an assist. He was a minus-one with six penalty minutes.
