AHL: Cleveland Monsters Acquire 24-Year-Old Defenseman from Utica

The Cleveland Monsters hold the fourth spot in the North Division and are currently in a playoff spot. They are six points ahead of the first team in the division out of a playoff spot. Today they made a trade with the Utica Comets who are in last place in the North Division and six ten points back of the final playoff spot. The Monsters acquired defenseman Will MacKinnon in exchange for future considerations.

Will MacKinnon

MacKinnon played his college career at the University of New Hampshire. In four seasons he played in 119 games recording 24 points on five goals, 19 assists, and was a minus-nine. Out of college he joined the Reading Royals of the ECHL playing in 17 games recording an assist and was a plus-two. In 2022-23 with the Royals, he played in 71 games recording 26 points on seven goals, 19 assists, and was a +27. Last season he spent time with the Adirondack Thunder of the ECHL and 40 games with the Comets. In 29 games in the ECHL, he recorded four points on a goal, three assists, and was a plus-ten.

In the AHL he played in 40 games recording six points on three goals, three assists, and was a plus-seven. This season in 42 games with Utica he recorded four assists and was a plus-three. He also played in two games in the ECHL recording an assist and was a plus-one.
