AHL: Cleveland Monsters Bring Back Two Defenseman

The Cleveland Monsters this afternoon address their blue line as they extended defenseman Will MacKinnon and signed Ole Julian Bjørgvik-Holm. Will MacKinnon played in 42 games for the Utica Comets this past season. He had four assists and was a plus-three with 42 penalty minutes. He also played in two games with the Adirondack Thunder, recording an assist. MacKinnon was a plus-one with two penalty minutes. He also played in two games for the Monsters and was held pointless as well as a minus-four. Bjørgvik-Holm played in 44 games for Cleveland last season, recording seven points on three goals and four assists. He was a minus-three with 50 penalty minutes.

Will MacKinnon

MacKinnon played four seasons at the University of New Hampshire. He played in 116 games, recording 24 points on five goals and 19 assists. He was a minus-nine with three-game winning goals and 64 penalty minutes. MacKinnon joined the Reading Royals of the ECHL after UNH. He played in 88 games for them, recording 27 points on seven goals and 20 assists. He was a +29 with three game-winning goals and 82 penalty minutes. In 2023-24, he played for the Utica Comets, appearing in 40 games. He recorded six points on three goals and three assists. He was a plus-seven with 41 penalty minutes. MacKinnon also played in 29 games for the Adirondack Thunder, recording four points on a goal and three assists. He was a plus-ten with 32 penalty minutes.

Ole Julian Bjørgvik-Holm

Bjørgvik-Holm played for the Mississauga Steelheads of the OHL. In 57 games, he had 19 points on two goals and 17 assists. He was a minus-two with 47 penalty minutes. He then went and played in Norway with Manglerud. In 22 games, he had ten points on two goals and eight assists. He was a minus-one with 14 penalty minutes. He then joined the Monsters that same season. In 16 games, he had five points on a goal and four assists. He was a minus-one with eight penalty minutes. In 2021-22, he returned to the OHL with the Steelheads. In 54 games, he had 13 points on three goals and ten assists. He was a minus-four with 82 penalty minutes.

He returned to the Monsters in 2022-23, playing in 25 games and recording two assists. Bjørgvik-Holm was a minus-four with six penalty minutes. He also played in 19 games with the Kalamazoo Wings, recording four points on a goal and three assists. He was a plus-one with 23 penalty minutes. Bjørgvik-Holm was with Cleveland for just two games in 2023-24 and was held pointless; he was a minus-three. That same season, in 57 games with Cincinnati Cyclones, he recorded 33 points on five goals and 28 assists. He was a minus-eight with a power-play goal and 38 penalty minutes.
