AHL Game Recap: Charlotte Checkers vs Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins | 12/13/2024

It’s no secret that the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and the Charlotte Checkers are rivals, and it certainly showed in the second game of the week against each other.

First Period:

Charlotte got to work at:15 into the opening frame when Rasmus Asplund scored his eighth goal of the season unassisted into the back of Joel Blomqvist’s net. John Leonard earned his ninth goal of the season at 6:47 off of the assist of Asplund and veteran player Kyle Criscuolo.

First Period Penalties:

Second Period:

It was a quiet middle frame for Wilkes-Barre, with no goals scored. Charlotte’s centerman Patrick Giles netted the third goal for the Checkers at 13:51 with a helper from Riley Hughes and Trevor Carrick. The second period was filled with physicality from both sides.

Charlotte scored on the power play goal at 6:14 when Ben Steeves shot the puck in past Blomqvist. This was Steeves second goal of the season. He was assisted by Wilmer Skoog and Tobias Björnfot.

This was the third consecutive game that Wilkes-Barre/Scranton has gotten off to a slow start. Tomorrow, they have a chance to get back on track and stay simple in the game.
