Kevin Conley scored his first goal in a Manitoba Moose uniform while Brad Lambert added two more goals of his own to help secure the Moose’s 4-2 win over the Chicago Wolves.
The Moose (5-9-0-0) wrapped up a three-game mini-series against the Wolves (5-7-1-0) at the Canada Life Centre on Saturday, November 23rd. The Moose welcomed their long-time rivals to Manitoba for their 25th-season celebration game.
Manitoba and Chicago were off the scoresheet in the opening frame. The Moose outshot Chicago 10-7 after 20 and found themselves playing a hard style in front of the net, which included two power-play chances and multiple breakaways.
It didn’t take long for the scoring to open up as Kevin Conley scored his first goal with the Moose, but the Wolves answered back 76 seconds later as Josiah Slavin evened things up at 1-1. Chicago found themselves scoring just 13 seconds into a late-period power play to put themselves up 2-1 as they headed into the third period.
The third period was slower to get started, but the Moose struck seven minutes in as Brad Lambert made an incredible effort to pick up his own rebound and tuck the puck around Dustin Tokarski to even the score at 2-2.
Dominic Toninato found the back of the net 52 seconds later from a shot that beat Tokarski’s blocker side and potted the win for the Moose. Lambert added the empty net insurance marker as he scored on the empty net to put the Moose up 4-2 with two minutes left in the game.
Moose goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen made 25 saves in the win while Wolves goaltender Dustin Tokarski made 23 saves in the Wolves loss. The Moose are back in action on Friday, November 29th and Sunday, December 1st for a two-game set against the Calgary Wranglers.
