Dylan Anhorn scored his first career AHL goal in Manitoba’s 3-1 win over the Rockford IceHogs on the Moose’s opening goal and shorthanded marker. Brad Lambert added a power play goal and CJ Suess added an even strength insurance marker to push the Moose to victory. Manitoba improved to 3-3-0 while Rockford fell to 2-3-0.
The Moose would kick things off at 12:40 with a short-handed goal scored by Dylan Anhorn. Henri Nikkanen would push the play from the neutral zone into Rockfords end and patiently wait for Dylan Anhorn to join him. Anhorn snatched up the puck and beat the Rockford netminder just below the blocker to put the Moose up a goal.
Manitoba’s party was ruined when they got a power play chance and Rockford scored a shorthanded goal of their own. The puck would crawl just past the blue line which was enough for Samuel Savoie to get ahold of the puck and get the shorthanded breakaway to tie the game at one goal each.
Both teams generated multiple chances that the goaltenders turned aside. The score remained tied at 1-1 at the end of 20 minutes with no significant change in momentum.
As the second period got off to a start, the Moose found themselves killing a five-minute major given out to Tyson Empey as he charged a Rockford player and hit him in the head. The Moose’s bench got shorter for the night as Empey was given five and a game for his hit.
Manitoba’s biggest chance of the second period came as Kevin Conley got on a breakaway but was turned aside by Rockford’s netminder.
Manitoba would have a goal overturned in the dying minutes as CJ Suess batted a puck from out of the air that the referees claimed was a high stick. Suess and his teammates argued that it wasn’t a high stick, and after a short review process by the referees, the game remained tied at 1-1 after 40 minutes.
Manitoba remains at home where they prepare to welcome the Milwaukee Admirals for a two game weekend series on November 1st and 2nd.
