
The Providence Bruins bounced back from Friday’s loss in a big way picking up a 4-1 win over the Springfield Thunderbirds. It was a much-needed two points for Providence as the teams surrounding them in the Atlantic Division all played. Hershey won 5-2 over Chicago. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton won 5-3 over Lehigh Valley. Charlotte who trails the Bruins by a point picked up a 3-2 win over Toronto.

Providence vs. Springfield Recap
First Period
Springfield and Providence renewed their rivalry on the opening faceoff, just two seconds in as Joey Abate and Kale Kessy dropped the gloves. The Bruins jumped out to a 1-0 lead with just under five minutes left in the period when Fraser Minten scored his first goal in his second game as a Bruin. This one came on the power-play. It was a big afternoon for Minten who made his debut Friday. Georgii Merkulov and Matthew Poitras added assists. It was 1-0 Providence after the first 20.
Second Period
In the middle period, Providence added to their lead. First just under two and a half minutes in Minten scored his second of the game to make it 2-0. This goal was assisted by Billy Sweezey and Riley Tufte. Later in the period with just under ten minutes gone, Minten completed the hat trick. This goal was assisted by Fabian Lysell. Springfield got on the board a little while later with Dalibor Dvorsky scoring his 19th of the season. Hunter Skinner and Tanner Dickinson added assists. With under two minutes left in the period Providence made it a three-goal game again when Riley Duran scored his tenth of the season. Minten and Joey Abate had assists.
Third Period
Neither team scored in the third period. Providence and Springfield each put nine shots on goal in the final period.
Providence vs. Springfield Goalies
Michael DiPietro got the start in goal for Providence. He stopped 24 of the 25 shots he faced. DiPietro is 22-8-6 on the season with a 2.05 goals-against average, a .927 save percentage, and four shutouts. Vadim Zherenko got the start for Springfield stopping 25 of the 29 shots he faced. With the loss he dropped to 10-14-3 with a 3.53 goals-against average, and a .892 save percentage.

The Providence Bruins will next face the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Friday at 7:05 PM EST at the Mohegan Arena at Casey Plaza in Luzerene County, PA.
