
The Providence Bruins suffered a 4-2 loss to the Toronto Marlies last night. With the loss, they are tied for third with the Charlotte Checkers in the Atlantic Division. The Checkers have the tiebreaker over Providence. The Bruins won the first meeting against the Marlies last Friday 5-2.

First Period
The Bruins got on the board first with a goal from Fabian Lysell, it was hit 11th of the season. The goal was assisted by Matthew Poitras and Riley Tufte. With a minute and a half left in the first period, Toronto would tie it. Roni Hirvonen scored his tenth of the season with Willliam Villeneuve picking up his 23rd assist of the season.
Second Period
The second period saw the Marlies take a 2-1 lead just 30 seconds into the period. Alex Steeves scored his league-leading 32nd goal of the season. Villeneuve added another assist. The Bruins would tie it back up with a power-play goal from Frederic Brunet. It was Brunet’s fourth goal of the season. Georgii Merkulov added his team-leading 33rd assist of the season, and Poitras also added an assist. The Marlies took the lead back with just under six minutes left in the period. Robert Mastrosimone scored his sixth goal of the season. Villeneuve was at it again adding his third assist of the game and 25th of the season.
Third Period & Final
The Marlie put the game away with 31 seconds left on an empty net goal. Joseph Blandisi, scored his 12th of the season. Michael DiPietro got the start for Providence and stopped 23 of the 26 shots he faced. DiPietro is having a good season for Providence. He is posting a 21-8-5 record with a 2.08 goals-against average, a .927 save percentage, and four shutouts. Dennis Hildeby got the start for Toronto and he stopped 24 of the 26 shots he faced. Hildeby is 12-6-1 with a 2.64 goals-against average, a .905 save percentage, and a shutout.
The Providence Bruins will next face the Rochester Americans on Friday night at 7:05 PM EST at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, NY. The Bruins are 1-0-0-0 against the Americans this season winning 3-0 on January 24th. The Marlies’ next game is Saturday at 1:30 PM EST against the Charlotte Checkers at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, ON. Toronto is 1-0-1-0 against Charlotte this season, they won 4-3 on November 9th and lost 5-4 on November 10th.
