AHL: Grand Rapids Griffins Acquire 26-Year-Old Defenseman from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton

The Grand Rapids Griffins are in third place in the Central Division trailing the Milwaukee Admirals by five points. On the other side, the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins are in second place in the Atlantic Division. They trail the Hershey Bears by five points. The AHL trade deadline is Friday. Today the Griffins acquired defenseman Nikolai Knyzhov from the Penguins in exchange for future considerations. Knyzhov will turn 27 on the 20th.

Nikolai Knyzhov

Knyzhov is in his first season with the Penguins having played in 14 games recording seven points on two goals and five assists. He is a plus-six and has 19 penalty minutes. He has also played in six ECHL games recording an assist. Last season he was with the San Jose Barracuda playing in 40 games he recorded 14 points on three goals and 11 assists. He was a plus-eight and had 24 penalty minutes. He’s played in 81 NHL games recording 12 points on three goals and nine assists. In the AHL between the Barracuda and the Penguins he’s played in 106 games recording 28 points on six goals and 22 assists.
