
The Grand Rapids Griffins kicked off their free agency signing as they added a 24-year-old defenseman in Alex Kannok-Leipert. The deal is a one-year AHL contract. Kannok-Leipert spent last season with the Bakersfield Condors. In 59 games, he recorded 11 points on four goals and seven assists. He was a minus-one and had 93 penalty minutes.

Kannok-Leipert, before joining the American Hockey League, spent five seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Vancouver Giants. In 219 games, he had 83 points on 21 goals and 62 assists. He was a +47 with 240 penalty minutes. In 28 playoff games, he recorded 12 points on two goals and ten assists. He was a +11 with 14 penalty minutes. Kannok-Leipert then joined the Abbotsford Canucks, where he spent his first three seasons in the American Hockey League. In 123 games, he recorded 12 points on a goal and 11 assists. He was a plus-ten and had 140 penalty minutes. He also appeared in two playoff games in 2023 with the Canucks, recording an assist. In 182 career AHL games, he has 23 points on five goals and 18 assists. He is a plus-nine with 233 penalty minutes.
