
The Grand Rapids Griffins today signed a 24-year-old defenseman who is from Canton, MI. The defenseman is Nicklas Andrews, who is now signed to an AHL contract for the 2025-26 season. Andrews spent the 2024-25 season with the Detroit Red Wings ECHL affiliate, the Toledo Walleye. In two games for the Walleye this season, Andrews had an assist. He was a plus-one. In 20 playoff games, he had a goal and an assist. He was a minus-one with four penalty minutes.

Andrews spent four seasons of college hockey at Colorado College. In his first two seasons, he played in 55 games, recording 18 points on five goals and 13 assists. He was -12 with two power-play goals and 30 penalty minutes. In his final two seasons with the Tigers, he appeared in 74 games, recording 31 points on five goals and 26 assists. He was a -12 with a power-play goal and 43 assists. He then transferred to Michigan State for his final collegiate season, where, in 40 games, he recorded 20 points, including two goals and 18 assists. Andrews was +28 with 12 penalty minutes. He finished his collegiate career between the two schools, playing in 169 games, recording 69 points on 12 goals and 57 assists. He was a plus-four with three power-play goals and 85 penalty minutes.
