
The Hershey Bears continue to lock up their defense, as they re-signed Nick Leivermann yesterday. This morning, they re-signed Jon McDonald to an AHL contract for the 2025-26 season. McDonald last season in his first season with Hershey, appeared in 31 games, recording six points on three goals and three assists. He was a minus-five with six penalty minutes. He also appeared in 12 games in the ECHL with the South Carolina Stingrays. McDonald recorded nine points on two goals and seven assists. He was a plus-ten.

McDonald spent five seasons at UMass Lowell, where, in 145 games, he recorded 62 points on 10 goals and 52 assists. He was a +14 with six power-play goals and one game-winning goal; he also had 78 penalty minutes. McDonald recorded an assist in his lone NCAA Tournament game in 2022. In 2022-23, after UMass-Lowell, he joined the Toledo Walleye in the ECHL. In ten games, he had three assists. He was a minus-six with six penalty minutes. In 2023-24, he played in 64 games with the South Carolina Stingrays, recording 17 points on four goals and 13 assists. He was a plus-two with 16 penalty minutes. In 86 career ECHL games, he has 29 points on six goals and 23 assists. He is a plus-six with 22 penalty minutes.
