AHL: Josh Filmon Called Up To Utica Comets

Sarah Pietrowski/InsideTheRink

The Utica Comets have announced that they’ve called up forward Josh Filmon from the Adirondack Thunder, who was in the lineup for today’s game vs Syracuse Crunch. In 27 games this year with the Thunder, the 20-year-old forward has eight goals and six assists for 14 points; he is also on a three-game point streak with three goals and two assists for five points. This is a massive loss for Adirondack, as Filmon and Kevin O’Neil have had some great chemistry over the past few games, picking up nine points over the past two games. Utica plays on Wednesday and Friday, as Adirondack doesn’t play again until Saturday Night vs Norfolk Admirals. I won’t be shocked if this is to get Filmon some more ice time at the AHL level before he possibly gets sent back to Adirondack for the weekend. On the bright side, if Filmon doesn’t come back, there is also a possibility that the Thunder could be getting some bodies back from IR.

This doesn’t come as a shock as this is a well-deserved call-up for Filmon, who began the season in Utica, where he played in nine games but couldn’t find the scoresheet. Filmon was drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the sixth round of the 2022 NHL Draft and played four games with the Utica Comets during the 2022-23 season, where he notched his first AHL goal. Prior to going pro, he spent four seasons in the WHL with the Swift Current Broncos, where he put up 99 goals and 90 assists for 189 points.
