AHL: Laval Rocket Sign Ben Gaudreau

Taylor Trebotte/InsideTheRink

The Laval Rocket have announced that they’ve signed goaltender Ben Gaudreau to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2025-26 season. In his rookie season, the 22-year-old goaltender played 43 games with the Indy Fuel (ECHL), where he went 21-16-6 with a 2.46 GAA, a .902 SV%, and three shutouts. He played in five games at the AHL level with the Rockford IceHogs, where he went 2-2 with a 3.19 GAA and a .868 SV%. Gaudreau is the second goaltender.

Prior to going pro, the third-round draft pick of the San Jose Sharks in 2021 would spend five seasons at the OHL level, putting up a 74-52-12 record with a 3.53 GAA, .890SV%, and three shutouts. He would represent Canada at the U18 and U20 World Junior Championships, winning gold medals in both tournaments. During the U18 Tournament, he went 5-0 with a 2.20 GAA and .919SV%. Gaudreau would be named the Best Goaltender of the tournament.

There will be no shortage of goaltenders in Laval next season, as it will likely be Jacob Fowler and one of Jacob Dobes or Kaapo Kahkonen. Laval has also re-signed Hunter Jones to an AHL contract, as he spent the entire last season in Trois-Rivières. Gaudreau will more than likely head down to the Trois-Rivieres Lions to give the Lions a deadly duo of Hunter Jones and Ben Gaudreau to start the 2025-26 season for the defending Kelly Cup Champions. This will help, as the Lions lost their number one goaltender, Luke Cavallin, who signed an entry-level deal with the Boston Bruins. Montreal has a bright outlook when it comes to their goaltending situation at all three levels next season.
