
The Lehigh Valley Phantoms named their newest head coach today as John Snowden. He is the Phantoms’ fifth head coach in Lehigh Valley Phantoms history. He adds coaches Nick Schultz and Terrence Wallin as his assistants. Snowden had served as the Phantoms’ assistant coach the last two seasons.

John Snowden
Snowden, before joining the organization, was an assistant coach for two seasons with the Toronto Marlies. He started his coaching career as a player assistant coach for the Bloomington PrairieThunder in the CHL. Snowden was then the assistant coach for the Orlando Solar Bears of the ECHL. He was also the assistant coach for the Newfoundland Growlers of the ECHL. On January 24, 2019, the Growlers promoted him to head coach. In 2020-21, he was the Director of Hockey Operations for the Growlers. As the head coach of the Growlers, he finished with a record of 62-27-7. He led the Growlers to the Kelly Cup Championship in 2018-19. He now gets his first head coaching job in the AHL after four seasons as an assistant coach.
As a player, Snowden played in the AHL, playing in three career games, he didn’t record a point and was a plus-one. He played in two games for the Norfolk Admirals and one game for the Utah Grizzlies. Snowden also played in 305 career ECHL games, recording 210 points on 106 goals and 104 assists. He was a -28 with 288 penalty minutes.
