AHL: Lehigh Valley Phantoms Sign 24-Year-Old Defenseman

The Lehigh Valley Phantoms today signed a 24-year-old defenseman as they agreed to an AHL deal for 2025-26 with Ben Meehan. Meehan, in two games with the Iowa Wild last season, didn’t record a point. He was a minus-one.

The Los Angeles Kings drafted Meehan with the 140th overall pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. Meehan played college hockey at UMass-Lowell, where he spent five seasons, two of which he was the team captain. In his first season with the River Hawks, he played in 17 games, recording eight assists. He was a minus-two with 27 penalty minutes. In year two, he played in 33 games, recording 14 points on five goals and nine assists. He was a plus-eight with two power-play goals, three game-winning goals, and 54 penalty minutes.

In 2022-23, he played in 34 games, recording 17 points on four goals and 13 assists. He was a minus-one with two power-play goals and 43 penalty minutes. In year four, he appeared in 25 games, recording 12 points on a goal and 11 assists. He was a minus-five with a power-play goal and 31 penalty minutes. This past season, in 35 games, he had 17 points on three goals and 14 assists. He was a minus-four with a game-winning goal and 29 penalty minutes. Meehan completed his college career playing in 144 games, recording 68 points on 13 goals and 55 assists. He was a minus-four, with five power-play goals, four game-winning goals, and 184 penalty minutes.
