AHL: Lehigh Valley Phantoms Sign Carter Berger

The Lehigh Valley Phantoms are reportedly signing 25-year-old defenseman Carter Berger to an AHL contract for the 2025-26 season. Berger played in one game for the Hartford Wolf Pack last season; he didn’t record a point in that game. He finished as a minus-one. He also played in 67 games for the Bloomington Bison in the ECHL. Berger had 33 points on eight goals and 25 assists. Berger was a minus-seven with three power-play goals, a shorthanded goal, a game-winning goal, and 22 penalty minutes. He played college hockey with Alex Bump at Western Michigan.

Berger spent three seasons at the University of Connecticut before transferring to Western Michigan University for two seasons. In his first season at UConn, he played in 31 games, recording ten points on two goals and eight assists. He was a plus-four with a power-play goal and 14 penalty minutes. In 2020-21, he played in 21 games, recording nine points on a goal and eight assists. He was a plus-two with six penalty minutes. In his final season at Connecticut, he played in 35 games, recording eight points on a goal and seven assists. He was a plus-eight with a power-play goal and 36 penalty minutes.

He then transferred to Western Michigan, where in year one, he played in 25 games. Berger had 15 points on four goals and 11 assists. He was a +14 with a power-play goal, a game-winning goal, and 16 penalty minutes. In his final season, he played in 36 games, recording 20 points on four goals and 16 assists. He was a +14 with a power-play goal and 14 penalty minutes.
