
The San Jose Sharks today signed goalie Jakub Skarek to a one-year, two-way NHL contract. Skarek originally signed overseas with HIFK of Liiga back in May and returns to North American hockey. Skarek this past season played in 22 games. He went 5-13-1 with a 3.52 goals-against average, an .884 save percentage, and a shutout. He also appeared in two games for the Islanders. Skarek went 0-1-0 with a 3.94 goals-against average and a .872 save percentage.

The New York Islanders drafted Skarek with the 72nd overall pick in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. Skarek has spent six seasons in Bridgeport appearing in 161 career games, going 49-84-16 with a .890 save percentage, a 3.34 goals-against average, and five shutouts. In 2019-20, he played in 14 games with the Worcester Railers in the ECHL. He went 3-9-2 with a 3.73 goals-against average and a .879 save percentage. In 2020-21, he played for Peliitat of the Mestis league in Finland. He appeared in four games that season, going 0-3-1 with a .833 save percentage and a 4.44 goals-against average. In 2018-19, he played for Czechia in the World Juniors, appearing in one game, posting a 3.00 goals-against average, and a .900 save percentage.
