
The American Hockey League (AHL) Player Safety Committee announced that Manitoba Moose forward Mark Liwiski has been suspended for three games after an incident in Manitoba’s game against Chicago on March 13th.
Liwiski was involved in a heated scrum that resulted in him receiving a game misconduct for physical abuse of an official (category III). He was suspended under the AHL’s rule 40.4, which will see him miss Manitoba’s games on Saturday, March 15th, and Sunday, March 16th, against Iowa and a crucial game on Wednesday, March 19th, against Rockford.
Category III – Any player who, by his actions, physically demeans an official or physically threatens an official by (but not limited to) throwing a stick or any other piece of equipment or object at or in the general direction of an official, shooting the puck at or in the general direction of an official, spitting at or in the general direction of an official, or who deliberately applies physical force to an official solely for the purpose of getting free of such an official during or immediately following an altercation shall be suspended for not less than three (3) games. – Scouting The Refs
The Manitoba Moose currently sit tied for sixth place against the Iowa Wild with 44 points. Both Iowa and Manitoba are 12 points back from the final playoff spot in the AHL’s Central Division.
This is Liwiski’s first suspension in the AHL while he’s been sidelined a few times due to suspension in the ECHL.
The Dauphin, Manitoba-born forward has six points (3G, 3A) in 38 AHL games this season alongside 133 PIMs, all for the Manitoba Moose. Liwiski posted 25 points (11G, 14A) in 54 ECHL games last season alongside 310 PIMs.
Liwiski is eligible to return to the Manitoba Moose lineup on Friday, March 21st when the Moose welcome the Abbotsford Canucks to the Canada Life Centre.
