The Manitoba Moose announced on Tuesday, July 9th, that they’ve signed forward Mark Liwiski to a one-year contract that will expire at the end of the 2024-25 season.
Liwiski, 22, is a local product from Dauphin, Manitoba and spent most of his 2023-24 season in the ECHL, but did manage to suit up in seven games for the Moose. He posted two points (1G, 1A) and 26 PIMs during his AHL stint, but it was his ECHL tenure with the Norfolk Admirals that certainly will catch your eye.
As a winger, Liwiski suited up for 54 ECHL games for Norfolk where he posted 24 points (11G, 14A) and a league-leading 310 PIMs. He has appeared in 121 career ECHL games and scored 42 points (21G, 21A) and 502 PIMs in that time.
Liwiski got to shine a bit when the Moose welcomed the Iowa Wild to the Canada Life Centre when he scored his first AHL goal. You can read more about the game and Liwiski’s first goal in this game recap.
Before Liwiski turned pro in 2022, he played junior hockey in the WHL for the Everett Silvertips and Kelowna Rockets. In 204 WHL games, Liwiski recorded 96 points (52G, 44A) and racked up 340 PIMs across five seasons. Before achieving a full-time role in the WHL, Liwiski played a step below the CHL where he played in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League of the CJHL. He played for the OCN Blizzard where he suited up in 36 games scoring 25 points (14G, 11A) and recorded 96 PIMs.
The Moose will welcome Liwiski’s rugged style of play into their lineup after the loss of Jeffrey Viel. Liwiski plays with great intensity and will provide a serious jolt of energy into the Moose’s lineup heading into 2024-25. His mix of a physical brand of hockey and an important part of a team’s offence will mesh well with what the Moose are looking for in the upcoming season.
