The Manitoba Moose announced today that Morgan Klimchuk will join the team as an assistant coach under Mark Morrison’s coaching staff.
The 29-year-old Klimchuk spent the previous two seasons as an assistant coach with the Victoria Royals in the Western Hockey League. In the Royals’ 2023-24 season, they posted a win-loss record of 29-30-5-4 where they entered the WHL post-season.
The Royals faced off against the Portland Winterhawks where they were swept in the first round. Before his coaching stint in Victoria, Klimchuk was an assistant coach for the Edge School U15 hockey program.
Klimchuk was also a relatively successful player, hailing from Regina, Saskatchewan, he posted 133 points (62G, 71A) in 274 AHL games split between the Abbotsford Heat, Stockton Heat, Toronto Marlies and Belleville Senators. He also found himself in one NHL game in 2017-18 with the Calgary Flames after being drafted by the Flames 28th overall in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
Klimchuk was also successful in his junior career, he posted 267 points (118G, 149A) in 261 WHL games between the Regina Pats and the Brandon Wheat Kings. He also found some success in his early career winning a Bronze Medal at the 2010-11 Canada Winter Games, an appearance at the 2012-13 CHL Top Prospects Game, a 2012-13 Hlinka Memorial Gold Medal and a 2012-13 U18 World Junior Championship Gold Medal.
