AHL: Robert Hägg Heads Overseas

The Henderson Silver Knights will be looking for a new defenseman to replace Robert Hagg. Hägg signed a one-year contract with Brynäs IF, returning to the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). 

Hägg is originally from Uppsala, Sweden. He is 30 years old and grew up playing in the leagues of his home country, climbing until he reached the SHL in 2013. At the age of 18, Hägg participated in the 2013 NHL entry draft. He was selected 41st by the Philadelphia Flyers. 

Moving to America

The Flyers would assign Robert Hagg to their AHL affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms.  During his offseason with the Phantoms, Hägg returned to Sweden to join the WJC-20 and International-Jr teams. Following the team in their move to Lehigh, becoming the Lehigh Phantoms in 2014. He would once again return to the WJC-20 and International-Jr teams for the last time. 

After his time with the Phantoms, Hägg made his NHL debut with the Flyers, marking the beginning of a four-season stint. His experience was further enriched by playing for the Sweden senior team in the World Championship in 2019. Hägg’s journey continued as he was traded to the Buffalo Sabers in 2021 and then to the Florida Panthers in the 2021-22 season. 

After becoming a free agent, Hägg signed with the Detroit Red Wings for the 2022-23 season. The following season, he joined the Anaheim Ducks. The Ducks assigned him to their AHL affiliate, the San Diego Gulls. When his contract ended in 2024, he signed a one-year contract with the Vegas Golden Knights, who then assigned him to Henderson. During his time in Henderson, Hägg played two games with the Golden Knights.

Career Stats:

AHL- 306 games, 26 goals, 65 assists, 91 points, and 224 penalty minutes. 

NHL- 345 games, 16 goals, 47 assists, 63 points, and 208 penalty minutes.

SHL- 77 games, one goal, six assists, seven points, and 49 penalty minutes.
