AHL: Utica Comets Re-Sign Will MacKinnon and Jeremy Brodeur

The Utica Comets have announced that they have re-signed defenseman Will MacKinnon and goaltender Jeremy Brodeur to one-way contracts for the 2024-25 season. McKinnon will be entering his fourth season of professional hockey after splitting last season between the Comets and Adirondack Thunder as he had three goals and three assists for six points in 40 games in Utica and put up one goal and three assists for four points in 29 regular season games with Adirondack and would add five assists in 17 Kelly Cup Playoff Games. The Michigan native previously spent two seasons with the Reading Royals, putting up seven goals and 20 assists for 27 points in 88 games. Heading into next season, expect MacKinnon to be a guy who will be spending most of his time with the Comets while seeing time on the team’s second or third pair to start the 2024-25 season.

Brodeur is coming off a career year in which he went 18-9-3 with a 2.56 GAA, .918SV%, and two shutouts in 32 games with the Thunder; his only AHL appearance came in relief of Isaac Poulter on December 27th vs. Lehigh Valley Phantoms, as Brodeur stopped 20 of the 22 shots he faced in a 5-4 loss. The 27-year-old goaltender would go 3-1 with a 2.47 GAA and .917SV% in six Kelly Cup Playoff Games with Adirondack. Brodeur is still searching for his first career AHL win, as he is 0-3-2 in five career AHL games with the Binghamton Devils, Providence Bruins, and Utica Comets. Heading into next season, you can expect it to be a lot of the same for Brodeur as a majority of his time will likely come with the Thunder as Utica will likely roll with Nico Daws and Isaac Poulter between the pipes.
