Alex Debrincat Traded To Ottawa For 3 Draft Picks

Overview

With the NHL Draft coming within the next few hours, the first set of fireworks has already been displayed. The Ottawa Senators have traded for star winger Alex Debrincat. The 40-goal scorer joins a young Ottawa team looking to grow to be more competitive. In return, the Blackhawks received the 7th and 39th overall picks in this year’s draft and a 2024 third-round selection. Chicago gets back into the first round this year as they are headed for a complete rebuild.

The Player

Alex Debrincat is a special player. The young forward has been a consistent goal scorer and point producer in his time for the Chicago Blackhawks. He has eclipsed the 40-goal mark twice and the 30-goal spot once in five seasons. He is coming off a career year as well. In 82 games, he scored 41 goals, 37 assists, and 78 points. He was shy of being a point-per-game player but was a sensational player for the team. He finished second in points on the Blackhawks.

The Ottawa Senators are getting a sensational talent to add to the lineup. A player who has substantial offensive upside and a goal-scoring touch. His finishing ability is sky high, which is a significant boost for the Ottawa Senators. He creates offense with his skating and speed, and he draws penalties due to his dynamic nature. The sky is the limit for the Ottawa Senators, and this is a huge draft-day splash.

The Team

This is a huge move. Ottawa is not playing around as they aim to get more competitive. The team already boasts captain Brady Tkachuk, Tim Stutzle, Drake Batherson, Josh Norris, and Thomas Chabot. With a new arena underway, this team’s solid core will be fun to watch come October.
