It’s been a solid start to the season for the Detroit Red Wings. However, they will go to Boston, having lost two in a row (did collect a point in an OT loss to Seattle), and will face their biggest test yet. The Bruins just suffered their first loss on the season to the Ducks in OT. Boston picked up a point and will play Detroit with a 6-0-1 record. Detroit’s last game on Thursday against the Jets was their first bad performance of the season. It wasn’t all bad, but when you lose 4-1, it’s never a good situation. Penalties have affected the Red Wings during their past two games, something they have to clean up if they want to beat arguably the best team in hockey. James Reimer has either started or been the back-up between the pipes this season for the Red Wings, but Alex Lyon, who was also signed as a free agent in the off-season, is getting closer to making his first career appearance in a winged wheel.
Alex Lyon Stats:
At 30 years old, veteran goaltender Alex Lyon has been around for a bit. He’s bounced around with different teams as well. He made his NHL debut in 2017-18 with the Philadelphia Flyers. In his rookie season, he played in 11 games and finished with a 4-2-1 record. He spent four years in Philadelphia, and he finished his contract there with a 6-7-2 record, 54 goals allowed, saved 451 of 505 shots, and had a .912 SV% and 2.89 GAA. Lyon’s moved on to play for the Carolina Hurricanes in 2021-22. In his first and only season with the Canes, Lyon’s played in two games. He had a 1-0-1 record, six goals allowed, saved 59 of 65 shots, and had a .908 SV% and 2.93 GAA. Lyon’s signed another one-year deal after one year with the Hurricanes, and he ended up signing with the Florida Panthers. He had a career year with the Panthers as he played in 15 games, finished with a 9-4-2 record, allowed 43 goals, saved 445 of 488 shots, and had a .912 SV%, 2.89 GAA, and one shutout. Now, Lyon’s is one step closer to making his Red Wings debut.
