The Anaheim Ducks announced today that they are signing Sam Colangelo out of Western Michigan University, to a two year ELC. Sam is a 22 year old, Massachusetts native, wrapping up his senior year of college. He was drafted back in 2020, in the second round, going 36th overall.
Sam is a right shot, right-wing/center, and is 6’2, 209. You can expect a power forward play style from Sam Colangelo, and with a knack for scoring goals. He isn’t the best skater, in fact that’s probably where he needs to improve the most but he makes up for that his powerful and accurate shot. Sam’s game has been compared to Andres Lee, of the New York Islanders. On top of that, he has impressive hands to be a strong playmaking power forward, and clearly, he has the build of an NHL-ready player.
Colangelo finished the season in the NCAA with 43 points in 38 games, and 24 goals. He ranks 7th in the NCAA in goals, yet still 13 goals behind the leader, Cutter Gauthier, who by the way is the other Anaheim Ducks prospect, expected to join the team before the end of the NHL season as well.
With the Ducks desperately needing to beef up their right-wingers, this will be a great addition to the organization.
