Andrew Copp Done for the Season

The Detroit Red Wings will face the Minnesota Wild tonight. They will be doing so without Andrew Copp who suffered an injury in the second period of Saturday’s loss to the Wild. Copp went down the tunnel and did not return to the game. He was placed on IR yesterday and today it’s been announced he underwent successful pectoral tendon surgery. Copp will be out for 4-6 months. Copp will likely be placed on LTIR which opens up $5.625 million and after trading Ville Husso yesterday opening up more salary cap. The Red Wings are expected to make a big splash to help them return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2015-16. Copp this season in 56 games has 23 points on ten goals and 13 assists. This season he is also a plus-four has scored a shorthanded goal, and has a 50.7 faceoff percentage.

The Winnipeg Jets drafted Copp 104th overall in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. He spent his first eight seasons in Winnipeg playing in 467 games. He recorded 184 points on 74 goals and 110 assists, he was a +56. Copp recorded five shorthanded goals, and ten power player goals, and posted a 52.0 faceoff percentage. The Rangers acquired Copp, who spent one season playing in 16 games. He recorded 18 points on eight goals and ten assists. He was a +13, had a shorthanded goal, and posted a 49.6 faceoff percentage.

Copp is in his third season with Detroit playing in 217 games recording 98 points on 32 goals and 66 assists. He is a plus-four, had three shorthanded goals, two power-play goals, and a 51.3 faceoff percentage. In 700 career games, he has 300 career points on 114 goals and 186 assists. Saturday he played in his 700th career game and also recorded his 300th career point in that same game.
