Are the New York Islanders a Good Trade Partner for the Boston Bruins? Is the 7th Pick Available?

The New York Islanders have the number one pick in the upcoming NHL Draft, and there are reports that the club might be interested in adding another top ten pick. The Boston Bruins currently hold the seventh pick in the draft and have made it known that the selection is available as part of a package to move up in the draft or to acquire a proven player or two to help the team get back to the playoffs next season.

The Islanders could trade 33-year-old center JG Pageau to trim payroll and position themselves to add another draft pick to the top overall choice. Stefen Rosner of The Elmonters has stated that the Bruins could be involved in talks with Pageau, a player with whom Boston has had interest in the past. Pageau was almost moved at this season’s trade deadline to Edmonton for a first-round pick.

According to Jimmy Murphy of RG Media, there have been talks between the Boston Bruins and New York Islanders regarding the 1st and 7th overall picks and at least one additional player, defenseman Noah Dobson of the Islanders. To move up to 1st overall, the Bruins would reportedly have to concede the 7th overall pick and either a top-six forward or top-four defenseman. Centers Pavel Zacha and Casey Mittelstadt could fit that profile.

The 25-year-old Dobson is a blueliner who would fill a void at right-shot defenseman that was created when Brandon Carlo was traded to Toronto at the deadline. One source also feels that the Bruins and Islanders make a lot of sense as trade partners due to the slipping of Long Island native James Hagens, in the latest draft rankings. The Boston College forward was on some early mock draft lists at the beginning of the season as the potential number one pick. However, Hagens stock has fallen and many believe that Hagens could be available at pick number seven.

Taking a Look at the Detroit Red Wings Draft History

I have written that the Detroit Red Wings have not been able to acquire a superstar player in the NHL Entry Draft due to their not having won the NHL’s draft lottery since its inception in 1995. Before this, the draft order was set in reverse order of the standings from the previous season. Defenseman […]

Not breaking news involving our Edmonton Oilers, but still a pretty cool headline for nostalgia purposes. Jason Smith, who was part of the Oilers blueline from 1999/2000 to 2000/2008, and team captain during their Cinderella run to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2006, has signed on to be the head coach of the WHL’s Edmonton […]
