Tonight Atlanta Gladiator Mike Pelech will become the ECHL all-time leader in games played. When Pelech steps onto the ice against the South Carolina Stingrays, he will be playing his 860th career game. The Toronto, Ontario, native started his career as the 156th overall pick of the Los Angeles Kings in the 2009 draft. He played 72 games in the 2009-10 season as a member of the now-defunct Ontario Reign. Mike had ten goals and 25 helpers in his rookie campaign. Pelech started the 2010-11 season in the American Hockey League as a member of the Manchester Monarchs but came back to the Reign after five games. Mike would move between multiple teams between the AHL and the ECHL and between teams as well. Mike’s last game in the AHL was during the 2015-16 season with the San Diego Gulls. Since then, Mike has played 428 games in the ECHL with six different teams. Mike’s most productive seasons came as a member of the Greenville Swamp Rabbits from 2018 to 2020. In two seasons, he had 34 goals and 84 assists. Pelech is currently in his second season with the Atlanta Gladiators and has been one of the leaders as a veteran on this team. Pelech has amassed a total of 655 points (198 goals and 457 assists) which is good for 3rd all-time in total points. Once Pelech decides to hang up the skates, it will not be long before he gets a call to be inducted into the ECHL Hall of Fame.
