Blackhawks News Wrap Up: Prospect traded, Jersey Leak, Beer, and more

Kyle Davidson

It may be the middle of the off-season, but Kyle Davidson has not stopped grinding since taking over as General Manager. From signing players to releasing a beer and a potential jersey leak.

Kevin Korchinski signing

Davidson wasted no time signing his first-ever draft pick as General Manager, and Korchinski inked his entry-level deal. The deal is three years with an annual cap hit of $950,000. Korchinski was taken seventh overall with the pick from the Senators. However, he’s expected to return to the WHL, meaning his contract will slide a year. In a statement released by the team, Davidson said, “We knew that we wanted Kevin to be a big part of this team’s future, so we’re happy to have him within our system, developing in this early part of his professional career. His confidence and positive attitude paired with his size will be assets as he continues to grow his game in the WHL this upcoming season.”

Davidson is all in on Korchinski’s future. Now it’s time to sit back and enjoy Korchinski’s growth as he returns to dominate the WHL next season.

Blackhawks to play in Milwaukee

The Blackhawks will be playing a pre-season game versus the Wild in Milwaukee; if you were hoping to go to this game, bad news. Per the team, the game has already sold out. This is a great move to try to grow the game in Wisconsin. Maybe the Blackhawks can bring together Packers and Bears fans together.. Probably not.

The only thing that makes you scratch your head is that it’s the Wild and not the Predators, whose AHL team plays out of Milwaukee. Either way, this game will be good for the game’s growth.

P.S. Please don’t make Entwistle awkwardly eat cheese again.

World Juniors

World Juniors is in full swing… in August, yup, that’s correct. The Blackhawks have five prospects playing in the tournament. Dominic James, Wyatt Kaiser, and Landon Slaggert will represent the United States of America. Slaggert was also named Assistant Captian. Ethan Del Mastro will be representing Canada, and Victor Stjernborg will be repersenting sweeden.

After the first couple of days, Slaggert scored a goal, and Dominic James drew two penalties in Team USA’s opening 5-1 win over Germany. Canada and Sweeden also won their games.

Is this the Retro 2.0?

THIS JUST CAN’T BE TRUE! If this “leak” is correct and this is the retro 2.0, there will be a lot of angry Blackhawks fans. The jersey isn’t the worst in the world, but the Times New Roman “CHICAGO” across the chest is horrendous. They could put any Logo past or present, and it would look ten times better than this boring font. I would go with the 1941 logo.

Why is it that they don’t see that the fans want the 2009 Winter Classic jersey and flip those? This jersey would fly off the shelves, and they know they can do this design as Rockford had a jersey like this in the past. Let’s hope this “leak” is not correct or if it is, the Blackhawks hear the fans and make some changes to the concept.

BLACKHAWKS BEER

Now, this is just sweet! The Blackhawks and Goose Island have teamed up to make a Pale Ale that should hit the shelves just in time for the start of the season, and the design of the can looks AWSOME! So what could be better than sitting down and Cracking an ice-cold Blackhawks beer as Patrick Kane scores a goal?

Blackhawks Prospect Traded

Jalen Luypen was traded from the Oil Kings to the Tri-City Americans in a WHL trade. Luypen was taken in the seventh round of the 2021 NHL entry draft and took a massive jump, with the Oil Kings scoring 29 goals and 35 assists on the way to a WHL championship. Luypen should get a sizable role with Tri-City to continue to grow.

The off-season has been busy for the organization, and Davidson still has two RFAs to re-sign. Davidson should also look at UFA Sonny Milano, only 26 years old. His skill was fully viewed when he batted in the unreal Zegras over the net pass. Milano could be an excellent player to flip at the deadline or fill a bottom-six role for the foreseeable future.
