Today (Feb. 21), the Iowa Wild announced that they had signed Iowa Heartlanders defenseman Bo Hanson to a professional tryout contract (PTO).
The 6-foot-2 defenseman’s hockey career has not been stationary by any means. He has played for seven different teams in the past decade as he transitioned from the USHL, NCAA, ECHL, and finally, the AHL.
Hason’s USHL career began in 2014-15 and consisted of three seasons (169 games) with the Muskegon Lumberjacks, where he recorded seven goals and 50 assists. He was named captain in his third (2016-17) and final season with the Lumberjacks.
The defenseman then played three seasons (2017-20) in the NCAA for St. Lawrence University, where he recorded 11 goals and 36 assists in 102 games. His final two years in the NCAA were split between the University of Denver (one goal, three assists in 12 games) and Northern Michigan University (three goals, ten assists in 36 games). After completing his season with the NMU, Hanson played nine games for the ECHL’s Wheeling Nailers and recorded two assists.
Hanson has spent the current season with the ECHL’s Iowa Heartlanders, where he has three goals and six assists in 24 games – two goals and three assists recorded in his last ten games.
