The Boston Bruins have missed the playoffs for the first time since 2016 and have been playing some of their younger prospects to get a head start on shaping next season’s roster. On Monday, the Bruins called up two more minor league players from their AHL affiliate Providence Bruins.
Center John Farinacci and defenseman Frederic Brunet will make their NHL debuts in the team’s season finale against postseason-bound New Jersey on Tuesday night at TD Garden. The club demoted center Riley Duran and defenseman Michael Callahan to make room for Farinacci and Brunet.
The 21-year-old Brunet is a left-shot defenseman the Boston Bruins selected in the fifth round of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. The 24-year-old Farinacci signed with Boston as a college free agent in 2023 after playing at Harvard, where he was captain.
Brunet totaled five goals and 19 assists for Providence in 68 games while Farinacci tallied nine goals and 28 assists in 57 games this season. Both players have played the last two seasons with the Baby Bruins and have a chance to showcase their abilities in the NHL as a potentially busy offseason kicks off for the Bruins.
