The Boston Bruins announced on Friday that they have re-assigned forward Georgii Merkulov to their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Providence Bruins. In addition, forward Marc McLaughlin has been recalled from Providence. McLaughlin participated in practice with the NHL club on Friday morning as the Bruins prepared for a game in Detroit on Saturday night.
The 24-year-old Merkulov played three games for Boston and contributed one assist while averaging 13:44 of ice time. With Providence, Merkulov has two goals and nine assists in 12 games. McLaughlin is a 26-year-old forward who has played 14 career NHL games with Boston and has registered four goals. The Billerica, Massachusetts native has yet to play a game in Boston this season while scoring five goals with five assists with Providence, including a streak of a goal in five consecutive games recently.
The Bruins defeated the Utah Hockey Club 1-0 on Thursday night in Boston as they played their first game under interim Head Coach Joe Sacco. The Bruins are currently among the lowest-scoring teams in the NHL and last in power play efficiency. Boston has a 9-9-3 record and currently sits fourth in the Atlantic Division with 21 points.
