The Boston Bruins had good news and bad news this morning at practice at Warrior Ice Arena. Forward Mark Kastelic was back at practice in a non-contact red jersey. This is one day after defenseman Hampus Lindholm returned to practice with the same status. Kastelic has missed two games with an upper-body injury, while Lindholm has been absent for 29 games with a lower-body injury. That is the good news.
The bad news included the absence of forward Cole Koepke who left the Bruins’ 6-2 win over Tampa Bay on Tuesday with an upper-body injury. Koepke is likely to miss Saturday’s contest in Ottawa and is still under evaluation. Koepke has been excelling in a bottom-six role for Boston this year, appearing in 44 games for the Boston. Koepke has collected seven goals and five assists. With Kastelic out of the lineup, Matthew Poitras was recalled from Providence and will remain with Boston after Koepke’s injury. Vinny Lettieri was called up from Providence before Tuesday’s game and will be on the second line again for Boston.
Defenseman Charlie McAvoy also remains out of the lineup with an undisclosed injury and was place on Injured Reserve retroactive to January 11. Head Coach Joe Sacco stated recently that McAvoy would miss a “few games.”
The Bruins are currently in the second wild-card position with 49 points, and Ottawa is just behind them in the standings.
