Forward Riley Tufte was placed on waivers by the Boston Bruins on Friday, per multiple sources. Tufte registered zero points and shots on goal, four penalty minutes, and three hits across two appearances with Boston. If the 6-foot-6, 230-pound wing clears waivers, the Bruins are expected to reassign him to Providence of the American Hockey League.
The 26-year-old Tufte was signed by the Bruins on July 1, 2024 after spending last season in the Colorado Avalanche organization. In 20 career regular season games, Tufte has scored two goals with one assist and a minus-4 rating. Tufte was drafted in the first round, 25th overall, by the Dallas Stars in the 2016 NHL Draft. The Coon Rapids, Minnesota native played three seasons at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and played five seasons in the AHL.
Last season, Tufte played five games with the Avalanche scoring one goal with one assist. With the Colorado Eagles, Tufte scored 23 goals with 22 assists in 67 games during the 2022-23 season. This move could clear enough salary cap space for the Bruins to sign veteran forward Tyler Johnson, who signed a Professional Tryout with the Bruins during training camp.
