Boston Bruins prospect Casper Nassen got some good news on Wednesday as the 2023 seventh-round draft pick was cleared to play for the University of Miami-Ohio by the NCAA this weekend against Ferris State. Head Coach Anthony Noreen made the announcement as the Redhawks prepare for the opening series of the 2024-25 season.
Nassen’s availability to start the season was doubt due to eligibility concerns after the 20-year-old forward played a total of five games in a Swedish professional league during the 2022-23 season. Nassen played for Vasteras and Surahammars on loan and the NCAA has rules against college players having pro hockey experience.
The 6-foot-4, 205-pound wing played for the Frolunda J20 team in Sweden last season and scored 16 goals with 15 assists in 41 games. Nassen was the 214th overall pick by Boston in the draft and was ranked 138th by NHL Central Scouting pre-draft.
The RedHawks will travel to Ferris State for games on October 4 and 5 and finished the 2023-24 season with a 7-26-3 record and 1-21-2 in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC).
