Providence Bruins General Manager Evan Gold announced Monday that the AHL club has signed forward Jake Schmaltz to a one-year contract for the 2025-26 season with an Amateur Tryout for the rest of this season. Schmaltz just completed his collegiate career with the University of North Dakota.
The 23-year-old winger played in 38 games with North Dakota this season and registered six goals and ten assists. Schmaltz appeared in 147 career games in college and contributed 20 goals and 43 assists. Before North Dakota, the 6-foot-2, 180-pound forward played three seasons in the United States Hockey League with the Chicago Steel and the Green Bay Gamblers from 2018-2021.
A native of Wisconsin, Jake Schmaltz was chosen in the seventh round, 192nd overall, of the 2019 NHL Draft by the Boston Bruins and would have to sign an NHL deal to be added to Boston’s roster. Schmaltz has two brothers who have played in the NHL. Jordan played 42 games with the St. Louis Blues from 2016-2019, and Nick is currently an assistant captain with the Utah Hockey Club.
