Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced Saturday that the team has signed defenseman Victor Soderstrom to a one-year, two-way contract through the 2025-26 season with an NHL salary cap hit of $775,000 a day after acquiring Soderstrom in a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks.

The 24-year-old scored nine goals and dished out 28 assists for 37 points in 49 games with Brynas IF of the Swedish Hockey League this past season. Soderstrom won the Börje Salming Trophy as the league’s top defenseman and led all skaters with a plus-28 and had until Sunday to opt out of his contract with Brynas.

The 6-foot, 196-pound blueliner has appeared in 170 career American Hockey League games, all with the Tucson Roadrunners from 2020-24, contributing 16 goals and 66 assists. Soderstrom has also played in 53 career NHL games, all with Arizona, tallying one goal and ten assists. The Gavle, Sweden native was originally selected by Arizona in the first round (11th overall) of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.

The Bruins have a need for right-shot defensemen after the trade of Brandon Carlo at the trade deadline this season. Charlie McAvoy and Andre Peeke are the only defensemen who primarily play the right side on the current roster.
