The Boston Bruins announced the signing of veteran forward Tyler Johnson to a one-year, $775,000 million contract on Monday. Johnson had been on a Professional Tryout (PTO) during training camp and was awaiting the opportunity to sign a deal with Boston which was made possible salary cap-wise when the Bruins placed forward Riley Tufte on waivers recently. Tufte has since cleared waivers and was assigned to Providence of the American Hockey League. Johnson will now be an option for Boston as a second or third line right wing.

Johnson, 34, spent the last three seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks and scored 17 goals with 14 assists and a minus-35 rating last season. The 5-foot-8, 185-pound forward began his NHL career as an undrafted free agent with the Tampa Bay Lightning and played nine seasons for the Lightning with 161 goals and 200 assists in 589 regular season games.
Johnson won two Stanley Cups with Tampa Bay from 2019-2021. Overall, the Spokane, Washington native scored 32 goals with 33 assists in 116 career postseason games. For his career, Johnson has scored 193 goals with 238 assists in 738 regular season games.
The Bruins are currently 6-6-1 and have won two in a row heading into their game Tuesday night against the Maple Leafs in Toronto. Boston beat Toronto 4-3 in overtime at home on October 26.
