The Utah Mammoth have added forward Brandon Tanev to their roster after agreeing to terms on a three-year deal carrying an average annual value of $2.5 million.
Tanev, 33, was acquired by the Winnipeg Jets from the Seattle Kraken at the 2025 Trade Deadline for a 2027 second-round pick.
At the time of writing, there are no reported trade clauses in Tanev’s three-year deal with the Utah Mammoth.
As an undrafted player, Tanev spent four years with Providence College before signing as a college free agent with the Winnipeg Jets during his first stint. He spent four seasons with the Jets before signing as an unrestricted free agent with the Pittsburgh Penguins, where he spent two seasons.
Seattle claimed Tanev from Pittsburgh in the 2021 Expansion Draft, and Tanev found himself with four years of stability there before ultimately ending up as a free agent this year.
Tanev’s 10-year NHL career across three teams, now a fourth, has seen him post 180 points (84G, 96A) in 552 career NHL games. He’s added 14 points (7G, 7A) in 59 career playoff games.
While Tanev has taken a step back in his play, he’s certainly proven to be valuable to teams as he plays a highly physical play style and has no problem putting his body on the line.
The Toronto, Ontario-born winger was reportedly linked to potentially signing with the Toronto Maple Leafs. After signing in Utah, that can be put to rest. Though it is to be expected that Tanev may hit trade-bait boards sooner rather than later.
